Maricopa Institute of Technology is Hiring a Computer Science Teacher (7-12 grades) Near Phoenix, AZ

TITLE: Computer Science Teacher Grade 7th – 12th

CLASSIFICATION: Certified Salary Schedule at $54,000 to $65,000

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

ESSENTIAL: A valid finger printing card. No convictions for felonies or crimes against children.

REPORTS TO: MIT STEM MAGNET Headmaster

SUMMARY: Provides a high quality STEMM evolved instruction within a high technology based school environment where every student is acknowledged and valued as an individual; uphold the mission, vision and values of Maricopa Institute of Technology and contribute to the positive learning environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach Computer Science concepts and technology research and be responsible for one proctoring assignment.
  • Teach Computer Science classes using a variety of programming languages (HTML, JavaScript, C, C , Python)
  • Teach and implement CodeHS, Scratch and related software interface tools
  • Implement related technology, (Arduinos, Drones, Breadboard circuits, motion sensors, proximity sensors, LEDs)
  • Demonstrated success or potential for success in obtaining external funds
  • Assume a leadership role in design and optimization of the development of an Computer Science Technology Systems and Design Program

May include the following classes:

    • Intro to Web Design (grades 6-8)
    • Introduction to Python and Gaming Design (grades 7-8)
    • Introduction to Programming (grades 9-12)
    • Honors Algorithms & Data Structures (grades 11-12)
    • AP Computer Science (grades 10-12)
    • Cyber Operations (grades 10-12)
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, and the ability to learn new and evolving technology
  • Work with culturally and linguistically diverse learners and in adapting instruction for students with special needs
  • Commitment to a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research
  • Plan for and teach five sections according to the Arizona State Standards
  • Expect to guide college-preparatory learning and teaching activities that align with our school standards
  • Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will attend college
  • Develop and implement STEMM based lesson plans and instructional activities aligned with State Standards
  • Monitor and tracks student’s progress via regular assessment and data analysis and initiate differentiated instructions and interventions based on the needs assessment
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve STEMM instructional practices and share best practices with a positive approach
  • Communicate and involve students, parents and staff members to better support student’s education
  • Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures to ensure every student is fully engaged
  • Maintain student supervision and discipline in accordance with the discipline matrix established in the school system
  • Actively participate in professional development activities, and follow all instructions and expectations
  • Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, assignments etc. and provide appropriate and timely feedback
  • Maintain accurate student records including but not limited to parental communication log, attendance, grade and special achievements
  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with the team members to effectively address those needs
  • Support the mission, vision, and core values of Maricopa Institute of Technology
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned from the Head Master
  • Flexibility of schedule to accommodate extracurricular activities, school clubs, Student Council events, athletics, after school tutoring, Summer School, as well as any additional responsibility

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree in Secondary Education or subject matter (or 24 credit hours in applicable subject matter with other degree) in the related subject required from an accredited college or university
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Level One Fingerprint clearance
  • Full SEI Endorsement, Full ESL, and/or Full Bilingual Endorsement is required
  • Appropriately Certified/Highly Qualified (HQ) in Secondary Math and Specialized Secondary Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Multiple Subjects Teaching Certificate is preferred but not essential

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Well-versed but not limited to knowledge of Microsoft word, Excel, Google applications, on-line teaching portals and programs.
  • Ability to compile data, assemble reports and analyze the need
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish skills are helpful but not required

  • Performance is based on teacher’s evaluation twice in a year
