Marcum LLP is seeking an Assurance Staff to join our growing and well established national firm in Philadelphia. This position requires an individual with strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
The Assurance Staff will become involved with all aspects of the assurance practice and the day-to-day activities of various engagements. Working in a team environment, they will use professional discretion in applying learned auditing procedures (under GAAS) necessary to perform audits or reviews of clients’ financial statements. This associate is responsible to apply specialized education in the fields of accounting and auditing with the application of professional independent judgment and skepticism.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze data to detect deficient controls, compliance errors and irregularities, fraud, or noncompliance with laws and regulations.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports in accordance with relevant standards and performs a thorough self-review of work papers.
  • Work with clients and other team members to ensure information is delivered/received in a timely manner to complete the engagement while applying specialized training for the accounting industry.
  • Inspect eligibility, procurement and reporting records and compliance systems for efficiency and effectiveness,
  • Communicate effectively with fellow staff and engagement supervisor/manager to ensure recording of transactions and compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Examine and evaluate compliance systems.
  • Perform research when necessary.
  • Take complete ownership of specific aspects of the engagement and see them through to completion in accordance with firm standards and procedures under the direction of the in charge.
  • Working beyond standard hours is expected during busy season
  • Travel to client sites is expected and will vary; typically ranges from 20-30% of the time. 
  • Additional responsibilities, not listed above may be expected as needed

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS/MS in Accounting from an accredited college or university (minimum of 150 college credits earned before start date).
  • Must be eligible to sit for CPA exam upon hire.
  • 0-3 years of relevant public accounting experience preferred
  • Basic technology skills with proficiency in Excel, Word & PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to interact with clients, all levels of staff and colleagues in a professional fashion with a customer service approach.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to listen effectively
  • Effective time management, organizational, and analytical abilities.
  • Flexibility and openness to work on a variety of assignments; able to multi-task.
  • Ability to learn processes quickly and be able to apply to jobs.
  • Work well under pressure and with a team; able to meet deadlines with accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and exercise professional judgment while applying specialized proficiencies of a trained accountant
