Thomas Custom Builders, a family-owned design build firm specializing in custom residential construction in the Northern Virginia area, is growing its business and is seeking an Estimator that can immediately add value to the organization and mesh with the dynamic, hardworking, and adaptable team that exists today. To be successful, you must be a quick learner, a quick thinker and willing to do what it takes to get the job done and satisfy our customers.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Analyze preliminary to permit ready drawings and specifications.

· Understanding of contractual terms and conditions.

· Assemble accurate and well-organized estimates and proposals in a timely manner for Design-Build projects.

· Provide clear detailed quantity take offs.

· Organize sub-contractor quotations to ensure quotes meet contract documents.

· Ensure site personnel are provided with proper documentation related to project.

· Work with and coordinate with design and field personnel relating to pricing/costs.

· Calculate the total cost of building projects.

· Consult with experts.

· Provide and maintain unit pricing and database for material and labor costing.

· Meet with potential clients and design team to discuss options for proposed services.

· Help keep design for project within the client’s budget guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience

· 3-5 years of proven experience estimating projects $100K to $1 million range.

· Experience in the ICI building sectors of the construction industry.

· Experience with estimating software and spreadsheet design. We are open to better ways of doing what we do now.

· Strong math skills.

· Must be detail oriented.

· Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.

· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

· Graduate from recognized engineering, architectural or construction management program is an asset but not a must.

· Some working knowledge of MEP and other specialty trades.

· Good interpersonal skills.

· Must be able to work effectively as a member of a team.

· Must have valid driver’s license and vehicle.
