Our Facilities Technician position is full-time (40-hour/week) and is located in the Torrey Pines/Sorrento Valley area (zip code 92121).

Core Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Director of Facilities and EHS, provide initial response to building-related issues with electrical, mechanical, and gas systems; evaluate new equipment purchases to determine proper placement, and coordinate construction activities.
  • Perform minor carpentry and plumbing installation and repairs, basic electrical circuit troubleshooting, and determine when outside vendor assistance is required
  • Perform routine lab equipment maintenance (CO2 incubator, freezers, small equipment), minor repairs, and installation
  • Assist with the management of equipment and chemical inventories
  • Coordinate with service providers to ensure that services are completed and arrange activity with lab personnel to minimize impact on research.
  • Work with internal lab teams to support day-to-day laboratory operations such as shipping and receiving and ordering lab consumables.
  • Provide backup for onsite management of emergency response to situations in the lab and to liaise with external stakeholders such as fire and police departments, regulatory agencies, etc.
  • Assist with biological and hazardous waste stream management.

Skills & Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline, or high school diploma or GED with 5 years of experience in facilities management or lab operations in biotech/pharma, healthcare or academic laboratory environment. Relevant transferable experience will be considered.
  • Outstanding communications, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Possess a high level of initiative and the ability to work
  • Ability to read and understand facilities drawings, handbook formulas, and a variety of maintenance and repair related equipment, including measuring instruments.
  • Provides a high level of service and responsiveness to internal and external parties
  • Ability to work at a fast pace on multiple projects of a critical nature.
  • Ability to manipulate equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work on a ladder for routine actions such as replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles
  • Experience with US DOT, IATA, and CalEPA Hazardous Waste regulations
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening
  • Available to work within the core business hours of 7AM to 6PM, and availability for evenings/weekends as dictated by ad-hoc lab needs.
    • Service hours are generally 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday
