The Maker's Galley is Hiring a Chef Near Portland, ME

The Maker’s Galley is Portland’s most unique café and marketplace located on Portland’s waterfront. We showcase and sell all Maine-made products and incorporate Maine-grown foods in our breakfast, lunch and Sunday brunch menus. We also host private events, cater offsite events and host regular cooking classes and guest chef dinners.

We are currently hiring a talented and enthusiastic chef/cook to join our team. Must be willing to do a little bit of everything, a true team player. If you like to support local, want to be inspired and enjoy having fun with a great team, The Maker’s Galley is your next home.

We want someone who likes to get creative and would be comfortable showcasing their skills in our open chefs kitchen. This role will support our Executive Chef in her admin duties, and must be comfortable leading cooking classes and preparing meals and dinners for private events/catering.

You must be able to:

  • Assure adherence to all standards of food quality, preparation, recipes, and presentation in conjunction with the specifications of the Chef.
  • Ensure that food products, presentation, and plating are of the highest quality, and are prepared to serve in a timely manner.
  • Ensure clean and happy presence in the kitchen and be able to easily interact with customers and staff.
  • Provide support to employees with various tasks including line cooking, food preparation, plating and dishwashing, etc.
  • Helping with new menu development options based on seasonal changes and customer demand.
  • Ensuring quality products and concepts that comply with our mission statement.
  • Assist the executive chef in prep, ordering, inventory, opening/closing duties, etc.
  • Agreeing to flexibility in scheduling including weekends, holidays and special events, and assistance in teaching classes.

We showcase and sell all Maine-made products and incorporate Maine-grown foods in our menus. So, if you like to support local, want to be inspired and enjoy having fun with a great team, come join our team!

We would also entertain working with Private Chefs who want to get involved with private events and cooking classes part time throughout the year.

Qualifications

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
