Position Summary:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager will oversee the manufacturing operations of the Aurora facility as it prepares for rapid growth and the addition of a second shift in the upcoming year.
This individual will be responsible for managing all aspects of production, process improvement, resource allocation, and employee supervision across multiple production lines/value streams to ensure efficient and effective manufacturing operations. This includes full accountability for results in terms of cost, methods, quality, and quantity of work performed.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operations management in a low volume/high mix assembled products manufacturing environment, excellent leadership and communication skills, and experience scaling businesses through strong process development/implementation and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage all aspects of manufacturing operations, including production scheduling and execution, to reduce process times and inventory levels, ensure efficient resource utilization, maximize product quality, and improve on-time delivery. Monitor production schedules/results and inform stakeholders of delays and other related issues.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and report on operational
performance and take appropriate actions to achieve targets.
- Oversee troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution for operational and mechanical problems to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (Quality, Supply Chain, Planning, etc.) to address parts availability, inventory management, and quality issues. Ensure interdepartmental coordination and to meet business objectives.
- Partner with operational excellence team to identify value stream priorities and implement process improvement initiatives to optimize manufacturing efficiency, reduce waste, improve product quality, and support future state and business strategy objectives.
- Champion a Lean/continuous improvement culture by consistently researching new processes and equipment that may improve throughput and productivity and providing oversight and guidance to supervisors in the evaluation and improvement of manufacturing processes, through Lean manufacturing concepts and Six Sigma best practices.
- Maintain quality control measures to ensure that products meet or exceed customer specifications and industry standards.
- Mentor and develop manufacturing employees (supervisors, team leaders, and hourly production workers) while integrating new team members in support of workforce expansion and second shift launch.
- Manage and develop direct staff including consistently applying polices and guidelines in performance assessment/management, promotion, and discipline. Identify training needs and provide coaching and development opportunities to employees to enhance their skills and performance.
- Promote a collaborative, team-based environment that promotes employee engagement and
involvement to consistently achieve excellence in productivity, customer service, and quality.
- Assist in annual budget creation and ensure compliance throughout the year. Monitor and manage resources to ensure optimal utilization and cost-effective production.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA health and safety regulations as well as corporate policies and promote a safe working environment for all employees.
REQUIREMENTS
- 4-year degree in operations management, engineering, or related field and Lean/Six Sigma
certification(s) required. Bilingual English/Spanish language skills a plus.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production planning, and resource allocation and 5 years of experience managing manufacturing production/operations in a low volume/high mix built to order manufacturing environment required. Wood products manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Experience overseeing multiple shifts and a large workforce and/or experience supporting a manufacturing operation through rapid growth and business scaling.
- Extensive knowledge, participation, and leadership in Six Sigma and Lean best practices (Value
Stream Mapping, Just-In-Time (JIT) manufacturing, Demand Flow, 5S, 5P, Visual Management,
Continuous Improvement Processes, Kaizen, SPC, Communication Tools, Gemba Walks, etc.) and related KPI establishment and tracking.
- Self-directed with a proven record of taking initiative, identifying/solving problems, recognizing improvement opportunities, and implementing solutions.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers and stakeholders across all organizational levels.
- Consensus builder and team facilitator, able to foster effective working relationships across the
organization to support business strategies.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and coach employees.
