What we’re looking for

Seeking a wide-minded, collaborative writer to craft tight and compelling branded marketing pieces, value props, go to market (GTM) materials, Podcast scripts, ads and promotions. We (and you) work across all areas of the business to help acquire and nurture M1 customers on our wealth building platform. 

As far as skills, you’ll bring to M1 a proven portfolio of projects where you conceived, written, and managed copy assets to help fast-paced businesses be understood and get results. You’ll be able to plug into any meeting and clearly communicate how your work can help deliver on business objectives. You’ll work with marketers and designers before and during concept creation and ideation to explain and promote financial concepts. You’ll know how to achieve a specific tone and carry the voice of the brand within that tone. You’ll use your skillset to deliver impactful work that M1 will use to elevate brand perception and customer understanding. You’ll do all this while being able to field and incorporate feedback on your work.

You should be comfortable gathering insights from performance data to focus future writing projects. 

You’ll report to the Brand Director.

What you’ll do

  • Campaigns: concepting and taglines to product-specific executions in print and digital
  • Unique value propositions: add a narrative to a list of product specs and translate product functionality into emotional benefits for the consumer
  • Write to layout: presented with a layout for a specific screen or other specific use scenario, you deliver a clever headline and engaging body copy within the allotted character count.
  • Enhance and punch up content: Rephrase important statements with added meaning and impact, eliminate fluff, fix information-dense yet bland sentences, add character and refinement
  • Brand voice development: you'll be responsible for expanding the brand voice including the modulations with the brand’s voice
  • Strategy: Blur the line between writer and strategist with your participation in sessions with designers, developers and others
  • Provide regular, transparent updates on your work to the brand director, chief marketing officer and impacted department leaders
  • Play a prominent role in developing M1 writing and communications strategies. 

Qualifications

  • 5 years of agency or journalism experience 
  • Writes video scripts for motion graphics and voice over
  • Proven strong conceptual and writing skills
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Comfortable in Figma, Slack, Microsoft Word, and Asana
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Proactive, collaborative and team-oriented
  • Portfolio of published work demonstrating knowledge of storytelling 
  • Equal parts strategic and tactical, with a proven ability to develop strategic plans and roll up your sleeves to make it happen 
  • Skilled at planning, prioritizing, and executing simultaneous projects, while in collaboration with key stakeholders 
  • Financial knowledge and/or work in the industry is a plus.
  • Interest in personal finance is key.
  • Takes as much pride in seeing their team win as they do in seeing themselves win 
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to challenge the status quo, while seeing the positive and opportunities in challenges
