The company is headquartered in New York City and maintains a distribution facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. Wholesale customers include numerous department stores such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Lord & Taylor and Dillard’s, specialty retailers such as EVEREVE, as well as over 1,800 independent boutiques. Additionally, the company also has a fast growing Direct to Consumer (DTC) business via a company owned website (www.lysse.com). With significant growth potential, Lysse has made it a priority to heavily invest in the DTC channel.

POSITION SUMMARY

Lyssé is looking for a dynamic, extremely detailed, analytically oriented and experienced Controller. The ideal candidate, reporting to the President, will provide management with detailed and high-level financial information and analysis, assist in operational improvement initiatives, oversee day-to-day accounting procedures, manage accounting personnel and prepare monthly financial statements within five to seven business days of month end. The position, located in Indianapolis, IN, is results-oriented and requires a positive, highly motivated savvy professional with a proven work ethic not afraid to strive in a fast-paced environment. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as key member of the management team in crafting and executing strategy, including but not limited to finance and operations.
  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Help develop and manage operational systems for staff at multiple locations within the U.S.
  • Prepare financial statements and analysis, including interpreting data, planning annual budgets and monthly tracking metrics.
  • Responsible for the month-end financial closing process in a timely and efficient manner, including preparing financial statements and variance analysis.
  • Responsible for accurate fixed asset reconciliation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Responsible for payroll calculation, entry, and approval.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, including multi-jurisdiction sales tax collection, remitting and reporting.
  • Daily cash reconciliation and supervision of personnel responsible for cash application.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Maintains financial reports, records, and general ledgers.
  • Maintains Accounts Payable processes, including issuance of POs, coding and entry of vendor invoices, payment of vendor invoices and file maintenance for vendor files.
  • Compute monthly brokerage and internal commission payments.
  • Reconcile daily cash statements and post activities to accounting system.
  • Prepare monthly sales tax reports for payment.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting and revenue recognition.
  • Firm understanding of general ledger functions and maintaining balance sheet schedules.
  • Experience with journal entries, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts, cash disbursements, and payroll.
  • Impeccable problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively analyze data and make strategic decisions.
  • Expert level Excel skills, including the ability to construct, modify and use pivot tables.
  • Team player with strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly evolving work environment.
  • Able to manage teams, provide leadership and coaching to the accounting team.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-confident, self-motivated, self-starter, flexible, results-oriented and success motivated.
  • Hands on ability to learn the business with proactive approach towards operational efficiencies/streamlined systems.
  • Knows excel, inventory systems, AR.
  • Customer and growth oriented. 
  • Can collaborate with leaders to maximize spend to drive the customer experience and sales results.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred, but not required.
  • 5 years of management level accounting experience. 
  • 5 years of progressive financial experience.
  • ERP system / implementation experience preferred, not required.
  • Experience with Paylocity preferred, not required.
  • Experience in the retail industry preferred, not required.
