Overview

Lutron Electronics Co., Inc has an immediate opening for a Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Process Engineer on our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team to support the growth of our SMT process globally. This opportunity is for an engineer to learn about the strategically critical SMT operation, support the ongoing growth of this technology in our new product development efforts and support our existing factories worldwide. Working closely with Lutron’s corporate SMT owner, you will grow the use of more complex and miniaturized devices in our latest product development efforts. With your newly acquired knowledge you will provide guidance and coaching to New Product Development/Engineering teams on applications and design strategies. You will use a scientific method approach in process development by organizing experiments and then implementing data driven decisions to assist in new equipment rollouts, capacity growth plans and new part capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Drive Lutron's corporate development of one of the company's most critical manufacturing processes
• Develop expertise in the SMT operation and become the go to engineer for the SMT process
• Use your proven analytical and problem-solving capability to develop and standardize the SMT process
• Apply your scientific approach to process development using data from experiments to drive decisions
• Consult with Engineering teams to provide innovative solutions to SMT assembly challenges in new and existing designs
• Work with SMT process owners in our manufacturing plants to drive continuous improvement in SMT operation focusing on quality, utilization and throughput metrics
• Work with the corporate SMT process owner to develop and update the manufacturing process standards that govern the assembly processes used in the SMT operation
• Collaborate with the PCB design team to develop new part/technology processing capabilities
• Stay engaged with industry experts and attend technical conferences such as APEX, SMTA and IPC
• Hone and adapt communication skills while working with engineers, operators, process owners and production leadership across multiple countries and cultures

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering (Mechanical/Manufacturing preferred)
• 2-5 years’ experience in process development or manufacturing engineering
• Technical aptitude for automation and complex equipment
• Must be proficient with computers and general software such as MS Office
• Willingness to travel 10% of the time to support our customers or needs of the business
• Experience/knowledge in Surface Mount assembly operations is a plus but not required
