GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for supporting LSSNY’s Human Resources Department in administering HR functions for the Safe Haven program. Safe Haven is a 24-hour shelter and transitional foster care program that serves young persons in immigration custody who are awaiting release to their sponsors. These HR functions include maintaining and updates job postings, tracking and screening applicants, assisting with recruitment, conducting new hire orientation, and onboarding, tracking and generating reports, executing benefits for Safe Haven staff, and represent human resources during staff meetings.
The Human Resources Specialist will perform the following functions for Safe Haven candidates and staff:

Benefits
Assist in the administration of Lutheran Social Services of New York benefits, e.g., medical and dental plans, life insurance, short-term disability, wellness, health savings accounts, deferred compensation, flexible spending programs and retirement plans as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 1 years’ experience in similar position
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Demonstrated ability to set and meet deadlines
High level of organizational ability
Ability to multi-task
High level of written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively toward solutions that generally benefit all involved parties to accomplish overall organizational objectives
Demonstrated proficiency in secretarial skills (e.g. spelling, formatting letters, prioritizing work, editing to ensure that final typed work is free of errors)
Demonstrated skill in computer programs necessary to meet the needs of the department
Experience in working with sensitive information and proven ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate discretion
Spanish fluency preferred
