Lowes Foods is Hiring a Construction Manager Near Charlotte, NC

Overview

Lowes Foods is growing! We are seeking a Construction Manager who is responsible for leading construction projects at Lowes Foods and Kj’s Markets (Alex Lee Retail). With a primary focus in our South Carolina and Georgia markets, this individual will manage all construction related activities for new stores and remodels including project planning, budgeting, design, construction management, and contractor administration. This individual will work closely with the Real Estate and Operations teams to prioritize the development of projects with the best returns.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Real Estate, Operations, and Merchandising to develop the requirements on building upgrades, remodels, or development of new stores. Create all necessary work plans and schedules to perform these activities to ensure the best use of capital.
  • Facilitate the process to obtain the necessary cost projections, bids, and financial return analysis for all projects, working closely with the finance team and VP of Business Support.
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day activities for all projects. Responsible for each project being completed on time and within the budgeted guidelines set forth in the projections or pro-forma.
  • Monitors and controls the construction process by coordinating the efforts of others (e.g., contractors, attorneys, architectural and engineering consultants, government agencies). Negotiates terms and conditions of construction agreements (e.g., price, timing).
  • Develop a network of contractors and service providers to perform various work activities as needed, aligning all approved providers with the total Alex Lee Enterprise and Director of Facility Engineering. Engagement of general contractors to include competitive bidding and negotiation.
  • Coordination, ordering and installation oversight of furniture, fixtures, and equipment for each project. Research as needed for new construction materials, equipment or application of construction materials that lower the cost of the construction work.
  • Review of all proposals and change order requests from the general contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors. Prepare and present comparative analysis. Creation and maintenance of the project budget and high-level master schedule
  • Routinely interact with the Director of Facility Engineering to create alignment, share knowledge, and collaborate on projects.
  • Engagement of design professionals to include architects, engineers, and specialty consultants. Management and support of design professionals from programming to completion.
  • Ensures quality control standards for construction (e.g., costs, timing, site & building design layout, specifications)
  • Review of lease terms and collaborate with Real Estate to obtain all necessary approvals from the Landlord. Engage and maintain positive working relationships with local government jurisdictions/departments.
  • Management of the closeout process, handle warranty issues, and turnover of the project to Facilities team.
  • Support any construction related initiatives within the Alex Lee Enterprise when requested.
  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field with 5 years of retail construction/project management experience. Solid knowledge of building codes. Proficient with Microsoft office, Excel and Project Management tools. Ability to work in a team environment and adaptable in a fast change environment. High energy level and strong drive for success.
    • Experience building and maintaining relationships with facility operation teams, utility companies, government agencies, architectural & design firms, and general contracting firms.
    • Deep expertise in the planning, scheduling, budgeting, analysis, resourcing, and implementing of all construction activities required to maintain and improve a large real estate portfolio. This includes mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, fire-alarm, lighting, furniture, etc.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and supervisory skills, including experience working with all levels of an organization and ability to handle issues involving employees in a professional and positive manner.
    • Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to meet deadlines as the need arises to meet project schedule.
    • Ability to travel > 50% with overnights a requirement.
