Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking organizational savvy individuals with strong leadership and financial skills to apply for the Assistant Controller position.
Under administrative direction assists in the planning, managing, and directing of the activities and personnel of the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s (LACOE) Controller’s Office, and assists in establishing policies and procedures in the management and accounting of financial activities by LACOE’s internal operations and Head Start and Early Learning Division.The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
  • Principles and practices of business administration, personnel management, and systems development and administration
  • Concepts, principles, practices, and techniques of general financial management including accounting, budgeting, internal controls
  • Concepts, principles, practices, and techniques for grant management of federal and state funding
  • Federal, state, and local laws relating to California school accounting and financial systems, including applicable statutory provisions related to these subject areas
  • Capabilities, concepts, applications, and coordination of electronic data processing resources to financial and administrative systems
  • State, federal, and local statutes, codes, rules, regulations, and policies applicable to assigned areas of responsibility
  • Fundamental concepts of employment laws, codes, and regulations, including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, and Cal/OSHA and applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreements

Required Education and Experience
Education: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this job classification, from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalence established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Experience: Four years of accounting or financial management experience in a public agency including two years supervising staff engaged in such activities.
Additional Requirements: A valid California driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites is required. Experience with contracts and procurement management is preferred. A master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
Remote, work-from-home, or hybrid work days may be available. To ensure the health and safety of its staff, LACOE will require all employees to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19.

Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition, the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272).
