LORETTO is Hiring a Director of Employee Experience Near Syracuse, NY

Overview

The Director of Employee Experience is a strategic member of the HR leadership team reporting directly to the Chief People Officer (CPO). The Director partners with the Senior leadership team and internally within the HR team to create and lead Loretto’s employee engagement strategy including culture, DEI, and retention initiatives. This role will leverage data and metrics to define and measure success toward goals supporting the engagement strategy. The Director, in partnership with other key HR leadership, will engage in process improvement initiatives for the department and will remain focused on continuous improvement opportunities with people, process, and technology.

The Director will lead a team of HR professionals including HR Business Partners and Employee Coaches who provide strategic and day-to-day HR support of Loretto’s managers and employees. Through the team, the Director will align strategic business objectives with people processes and initiatives to ensure seamless service delivery.

Responsibilities

Job duties specific to this position:

  • Actively participates in the long-term and short-term strategic planning processes incorporating Human Resources best practices, and collaborating with peers to define appropriate and achievable goals and objective measurements.
  • Provides strategic consultation to the executive leadership team to analyze and prioritize business challenges faced by the organization, particularly in the area of retention, engagement and culture, and deploy value added HR initiatives and interventions as needed.
  • Supports business performance, quality, training, talent management initiatives.
  • Builds professional and personal credibility and trust with the leadership of Loretto, peers, the Directors, and others throughout the organization. Develops effective relationships and follow through with all key stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with strategic business unit leaders, develops engagement, DEI, and retention plans, programs, and initiatives that support organizational goals and strategy which includes leading and managing strategic retention committees at both the corporate and business unit levels.
  • Ensures that appropriate service levels are provided to all business units by the HR team. Participates in or leads organization-wide performance improvement initiatives and oversees all HR activities to support those efforts.
  • Acts as a change agent and promotes innovation and continuous improvement throughout HR and the organization.
  • Directs and coordinates the HRBPs and Employee Coaches and their activities across all entities within the organization which include strategic HR consultation, workforce planning, succession planning, strategic talent initiatives, coaching, talent management, etc.
  • Defines the strategy, programs, policies and practices in the area of employee relations that promote a productive and engaging work environment; with the support of the labor relations function develops and maintains a collaborative relationship with key members of SEIU to ensure optimal operations and employee experience.
  • Responsible for overseeing the Annual Benchmark Celebration committee and the management of the Benchmark Celebration event.
  • Ensures consistent performance and disciplinary standards are enforced across areas of responsibility and throughout the organization.
  • Plays a leadership role in the development and implementation of HR initiatives to improve management capabilities related to effective employee performance management tracking, conflict management, and employee relations.
  • Develops metrics for the team and prepares statistical reports to measure both the quality and quantity of work performed and the ability to report relevant data on HR activities.
  • Ensures effective and efficient departmental policies, processes, and practices. Responsible for keeping all Human Resources policies up to date.
  • Ensures HR compliance with all federal, state, and local legislation relating to compensation, benefits, employment practices, and similar aspects of human resource management.
  • Uses open communication and critical thinking skills during conflict resolution, problem solving, decision-making, coaching and other complex dialogues.
  • Leads and participates in meetings, improvement projects and task forces as appropriate.

Job Expectations as a Director:

  • As a Director, this individual has full responsibility for an organization-wide function or service.
  • Recognized as the in-house expert or lead person for their function or site. Develops and executes strategy, policy and tactics for the site or function. Keeps current in his/her area of specialization, applicable regulations and in management trends.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills of delegation, organization, and coordination in managing the daily operations of their function or site, including performance management, scheduling, orientation, and training. In partnership with Human Resources, makes or approves recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, disciplinary actions, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems in a fair, timely and consistent manner, also in partnership with HR.
  • Promotes and encourages teamwork among employees and managers, and between departments. Communicates ideas and goals clearly and is an effective listener. Ensures that information is efficiently communicated and shared throughout the function and organization. Fosters constructive feedback and effective coaching.
  • Complies with appropriate internal and external standards and processes related to their function.
  • Develops and utilizes performance metrics or process improvements to continually assess and improve quality and operating efficiency, as well as resident/customer service.
  • Promotes and role models a culture of service excellence and customer service within their functional area.
  • Creates, promotes and maintains collaborative relationships and partnerships with peers and staff throughout the organization using active listening, unbiased and nonjudgmental
  • language, and open communication style.
  • Uses effective communication and critical thinking skills during conflict resolution, problem solving, decision-making, coaching and other complex dialogues.
  • Facilitates and promotes employee growth and development.
  • Leads or participates in meetings, improvement projects and task forces as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in human resources, business management, psychology or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-SCP or similar certification strongly desired.
  • 7 plus years of progressively responsible experience in employee relations, employment law, employee communications, strategic HR consultation, talent management, retention, culture and engagement. Experience in healthcare helpful.
  • 5 years of management experience. Experience in a union environment strongly preferred.
  • Significant knowledge of current labor law and regulatory requirements, HR functional activities, recruitment practices.
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization from executive management to operations staff.
  • Ability to lead, guide, engage and motivate staff.
  • Strategic and action oriented with ability to breakdown complex issues into action steps, clearly articulate a plan and execute effectively.
  • Ability to take initiative and apply a sense of urgency around achieving results, building consensus without creating prolonged processes.
  • Ability to analyze problems, plan resolution strategies, implement solutions and evaluate outcomes.
  • Effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, including listening.
  • Proficient in MS Office, and able to learn new software rapidly.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
