Software Engineer III Cirium is looking for a skilled Software Engineer to join our Flights Data Acquisition team. This is a cross-functional agile team charged with acquiring streams of data from hundreds of sources around the world. This data becomes a continuously accurate picture of the status of all global commercial flights. You will work alongside skilled engineers, program managers, architects, and subject matter experts with the goal of maintaining and extending the completeness, timeliness, and accuracy of this data. The ideal candidate will display a positive, team-oriented attitude, will be hard-wired for quality engineering, and will have a solid foundation in software development skills. Responsibilities: Design, write, test, and deploy production-ready code. We code in JavaScript using Node.js and in modern Java. For this role, we are looking especially for experience and enthusiasm with Node.js. Note that you will also be working with Java. Collaborate with team members and implement appropriate design patterns for new development. Work closely with teammates and other colleagues to understand use cases. Troubleshoot and support the team’s existing products while working toward team priorities. Actively support our deployment infrastructure by understanding and working with technologies such as AWS EC2 and EKS, Jenkins, and Docker. Understand and work with metrics monitoring tools such as Datadog. Be an active member of the technical team, contribute ideas and insight in standups and meetings, ask questions, review pull requests, analyze bugs and fixes, and help users and teammates. Participate in an on-call rotation. Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math, or statistics, or equivalent experience. A minimum of 3 years of software development experience in Node.js and/or Java. Working knowledge of Linux and comfortable with the command line. Fluency in HTML and familiarity with HTTP. Strong instincts for building quality and maintainability into the code and for test strategies and techniques. Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Docker, Jenkins, and Gradle. Familiarity with software development processes in an agile team environment. Experience with some or all of the following would be valuable to us: Experience with streaming data and distributed stream processing, and messaging or queueing systems (Kafka, AWS Kinesis, AWS SQS, etc.) Knowledge of data modeling, data analysis, data science, or basic statistics. Experience with relational databases and SQL. Experience with AWS Services, such as lambdas, S3, and Athena. Experience with metrics monitoring tools such as Datadog. Experience with aviation and air-travel data models and standards. Experience with Postman or other HTTP-focused tools.
