SUMMARY

Under general supervision, implements and manages all goals and objectives for admissions, membership, and attractions. Processes membership applications, provides guest and member assistance and oversees day to day operations within the department. List of duties below:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees and directs all admission goals for daytime park attendance.
  • Assists membership program serving over 16,000 members – processes any changes to personal records, data entry, and membership payments.
  • Handles guest and member questions, concerns, and complaints and provides information, answers, and solutions. Provides prompt reply to any inquiry.
  • Assists the Sr. Manager of Guest Relations with strategies to expand membership and grow park attendance.
  • Establishes and maintains effective liaisons with vendors.
  • Orders materials and maintains inventory for department, such as ticket stock, maps, and membership collateral.
  • Assists in preparing reports on admission and membership statistics.
  • Establishes goals, objectives and standards of performance; develops and implements operating policies and procedures for department. 
  • Maintains a safe and productive workplace for visitors and staff.
  • Able to deal courteously and effectively with the public at all times, and to represent the institution at the highest standard of professionalism.
  • Develops annual training and materials for the Guest Services Associates. Administers training in the fall of each year. Regularly communicates changes to policies and procedures.
  • Hires, develops and manages all Guest Services Associates, providing regular Performance Reviews as required and scheduling of all Guest Services Associates.
  • Establishes and maintains effective and professional working relations with co-workers and other department personnel, and in accordance with The Living Desert Employee Handbook.
  • Processes and oversees payroll for the department.
  • Establishes and maintains records for operation of the carousel, ensuring records are kept in line with CalOSHA regulations.

Requirements

SPECIFIC SKILLS

• Computer literate with Microsoft Suite: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365

• Galaxy Point of Sale knowledge preferred

• Above average organizational skills and very detail oriented 

• Problem solver

• Strong customer service skills to assist public, members and donors

• Financial/budgetary skills

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

• Must be a motivated self-starter who needs minimal supervision

• Ability to make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures

• Must have strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skill and have the ability to work with others in a team setting

EDUCATION AND PRE-REQUISITES

Minimum High School diploma or G.E.D. required. A minimum of three years in staff or office supervision role required. Ability to use personal computers in completing spreadsheet, database and word processing functions. Must hold a valid California driver license and be insurable on The Living Desert’s automobile insurance policy. Must be energetic with good communication skills and be willing to work with others in a team setting.

CONDITIONS OF WORK

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Sitting at computer station for extended periods; standing, walking, bending, lifting, twisting, climbing, crawling, kenneling, reaching motions.

DISCOMFORT/RISKS: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Exposure to extreme temperatures, working indoors and outdoors.

HOLIDAY/EVENING WORK: Weekend and holiday work required. Some evenings may be required during special events.

TRAVEL: Conference and workshop attendance available. If funding available, some or all expenses paid.

EQUIPMENT USED

Computer, computer printer, FAX, phone, copier, adding, 2-way radios, Point of Sale equipment, and credit card machines.
