Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York is a not-for-profit charity serving children, families, and individuals with developmental disabilities across New York City and Long Island. Our staff of over 600 people provide caring and professional services to nearly 2,000 people every year. Since 1930, Little Flower has been committed to improving the lives and well-being of those we serve by providing foster boarding home care, residential treatment care and where appropriate, adoption. Our work focuses on strengthening the family so that they can provide a safe nurturing environment for raising children and to overcome a myriad of obstacles that threaten a child’s safety.

What you'll do:

The Community Partnership Program (CPP) champions the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) ongoing commitment to partner with communities; serve as a network for providers, community leaders and residents; share local resources and information; address community needs; design and promote strategies to reduce the potential need for child welfare involvement and empower communities to thrive.

The Community Organizer is responsible for undertaking a variety of leadership, community engagement, resource development and program management tasks. The Community Organizer must be detail-oriented, has strong inter-personal skills, comfortable in leading group discussions and working with diverse backgrounds, skilled in program development, resource support, planning and outreach. Should also have strong connections to Bed-Stuy (reside or work) and knowledge of resources within the community.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train and supervise Community Ambassadors
  • Engage in community outreach to youth and families; support the work of Community Ambassadors in these efforts
  • Support coordination of the program and its activities
  • Implementation of policies and practices of Community Partnership Program
  • Maintain a stable core membership through neighborhood assessment and social investigations, door-to-door outreach, personal visits and community meetings, planning and mobilizing attendance at neighborhood meetings, and other recruitment strategies
  • Maintain budget and track expenditures/transactions; ensure accuracy and timeliness of check requests.
  • Manage data collection, documentation of outcomes, and draft reports.
  • Planning meetings with Community Partnership members and other stakeholders; and maintain agenda
  • Developing awards/recognition programs to recognize substantial and consistent contributions, to the Community Partnership
  • Manage membership records, track contributions, requests, and feedback on referred services
  • Manage communications through media relations, social media etc.
  • Build positive relations within the team and external parties
  • Organize and facilitate meetings/events to advance the community partnership objectives
  • Keep updated records and create reports or proposals
  • Encourage continued staff and program development through ACS sponsored trainings
  • Create and maintain directory of resources, directory of partners, assignments for community ambassadors, related community boards and stakeholders of the community targeted

Special qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Bed-Stuy community and resources
  • Resident of Bed-Stuy a plus
  • Strong problem solving and group work leadership skills
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent verbal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours (includes evening and weekends activities)
  • Sound technological/computer skills, Excel, charting
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field i.e. human services, health or education
  • At least three (3) years of relevant experience of leadership, community organizing, planning, and development in community-based programs engaging children, youth, and families

Salary: $55,00 (Negotiable depending on experience)
