Summary

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will have responsibility for three distinct areas; product, people and profit. Product will include assisting the Golf Course Superintendent in Golf Course, maintenance facility, equipment repair and maintenance, club house grounds, landscaping and related structures and buildings (pump stations, comfort stations, etc.). People include assisting with hiring and training and providing direction for team members within company set processes and guidelines. Profit includes meeting or exceeding the established standards for guest satisfaction as well as labor cost control / management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operations:

Oversees Greenskeeper I, II and III:

Proficiency with all job responsibilities

• Ability to safely and properly operate fairway and rough mowers.

• Course set up, set tees, markers and change cups.

• Marks the Golf Course for Golf Cart control, moves cart barriers and replaces wore or lost ropes / signs and marks hazard and drop areas.

• Hand watering of greens and fairways.

• Installs forms and lay walks / paths using gravel and asphalt mixes.

• Excavates and backfills trenches and ditches with hand tools.

• Repairs and replaces pipe on irrigation systems.

• Knowledgeable of methods and materials used in grounds and landscape areas.

• Complete required job duties in the most efficient, productive manner ensuring a well-groomed Golf Course.

• Deliver a business which is driven by quality, value and excellence.

• Develop a culture based on mutual respect, clear expectations with the ability to grow and develop as measured by turnover rates.

• Attend management meetings and convey all relevant information throughout Golf Course Facilities Staff.

• Hold regular staff meetings and convey all relevant information throughout the Golf Course Facilities staff.

• Ability to follow directions both verbal and written. Has ownership in quality of job performance. Ability to maintain focus on job at hand.

• Trains and coaches staff in the importance of quality customer service skills to ensure excellence for the ultimate in guest experience.

• Ensure equipment is maintained in good working order.

• Coach and counsel employees to encourage positive behaviors and empower employees to analyze and effectively resolve guest challenges and areas of concern.

• Provide employees with the resources needed to resolve guest inquiries.

• Initiate or suggest plans to motivate employees to achieve related goals.

• Responsible for enforcing Little Creek Casino Resort’s Policies and Procedures, to ensure employees meet the standards of excellence and professionalism.

• Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges and disciplinary measures.

• Prioritize and plans work activities, uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources; set goals and objectives.

• Be able to work weekends and holidays, mornings and evenings as business demand.

Financial:

• Use financial plans for spotting trends, measuring productivity and monitoring progress.

• Monitor fluctuations and trends in business volumes to be used in short and long term forecasting.

• Implement opportunities for manager operational costs and boosting bottom line.

• Proactive management of company assets driving continual profit contributions to the bottom line as measured by monthly financial statements.

Marketing:

• Analyzes market and competition, adapts strategy to changing conditions.

• Coordinate with the Marketing Department to develop Marketing Strategy and ensure a consistent image is being portrayed.

• Develops and administers policies promoting effective customer relations.

• Develop and maintain gracious and efficient customer service procedures.

• Monitor service trends by speaking with guests, reviewing written guest comment cards, and guest tracking information to ensure quality service standards are achieved.

• Make informed business decisions by staying up to date with industry trends.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of staff.

• Supervises Golf Course Staff and acts as the Golf Course Superintendent in his/her absence.

• Responsible for training and evaluating performance of Golf Course Facilities Staff.

• Responsible for ensuring accurate recording keeping relating to personnel issues.

• Carries out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

• Implement ongoing skills training to ensure service standards are being upheld

• Perform Employee Evaluations with proposed action plans.

• Interpret company policies and provide a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with safety programs and job safety analysis.

• Other duties may be assigned as required.

Customer Service:

• Promotes positive customer relations. Resolves complaints made by patrons and/or employees in a timely manner.

• Anticipate, identify and ensure customer needs are being met in the best possible way.

• Responsible for providing and instructing employees to give exceptional customer service by promptly responding to customer needs; soliciting customer feedback to improve service; while building and maintaining a long term guest relationship.

• Manages difficult or emotional situations; responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments.

• Responsible for providing and instructing employees to give exceptional customer service by promptly responding to customer needs; soliciting customer feedback to improve service; while building and maintaining a long term guest relationship.

• Maintain fresh, effective programs to consistently retain and grow customer base.

• Resolve all service issues via written communication or phone calls to complete the ultimate satisfaction to the customer.

• Recognize employees for demonstrating excellent service initiative with guests and fellow employees.

• Maintain effective communication with the guests and fellow team members.

• Ensure effective and ongoing training and development plan is in effect; specifically regarding effective and appropriate use of all confidential systems.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• Must possess a Certificate 2 or 4 year degree from accredited College or University in Turf grass Management or related field.

• 2 years working experience in Golf Course maintenance, seeding and maintenance practices for Golf Course Turf.

• Experience in the planting, cultivating, pruning and caring of plants, shrubs and trees

• Experience in the use of fertilizers, herbicide and pest control; irrigation and drainage systems.

• Valid Washington State Driver’s License required.

• Experience in turf maintenance or related field preferred.

• Ability to follow company policy / procedures and guidelines.
