JOB DESCRIPTION: Yard Switcher

FLSA Status: NON EXEMPT

Reports to: Operations Manager

Department: Position Summary: To operate tractor to switch empty and full trailers to and from shipping dock and yard trailer parking area. Primary Tasks & Responsibilities: • Perform pre/post shift safety inspections on equipment • Perform trailer refrigeration start, temperature adjustment and off procedures • Hook/Unhook trailers • Frequent bending for replacement of wheel chocks • Lift/open trailer doors • Slide trailer tandems when necessary • Safely enter/enter yard tractor numerous times per shift • Safely maneuver equipment with good backing skills • Apply trailer security seals, pin locks and/or glad hand locks • Communicate movements with both shipping and receiving departments • Trailer yard checks and record keeping • Maintenance and cleanliness of switching equipment • Maintain overall truck yard order

Knowledge & Skill Requirements: • High School Diploma or equivalent • Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required • At least 12 month recent CDL – A yard switching • Professional verbal and written communication skills • Professional appearance and providing a positive company image to the public • The Yard Switcher is responsible for maintaining compliance with GWP’s and all other food safety requirements. • Follow practices and procedures through a robust Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point System (HACCP) • Follow and enforce all food safety and quality requirements
