Lincoln County Highway Shop is hiring a Diesel Mechanic to join their team. This position will work primarily on their own, working with our welder as needed, and tracking vehicle maintenance with oversight from the Assistant Highway Superintendent. Responsibilities include performing in all phases of mechanical maintenance and repair on light, medium, and heavy or complex equipment, fabricating and welding materials as needed, and maintaining records. This position is located at the Lincoln County Highway Shop in Canton, SD.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED plus four years of work experience as a journeyman mechanic or in a similar work environment. Completion of an automotive/diesel trade school. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Certifications in Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) on medium/heavy-duty trucks. Possession of valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement within 120 days of hire. Must maintain safe driving record. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates degree in related field with eight years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Medium-Heavy Truck Certification. ASE Automobile and Light Truck Certification. Familiarity with fleet management software. Experience with reading blueprints, electrical schematics, all position welding, metallurgy, and fabrication. Knowledge of hydraulic functions.
