Lilac Solutions is Hiring a Project Director Near Salt Lake City, UT

Job Description

Lilac is seeking a Project Director to manage design, construction, and start-up of its Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) Process plants ranging in size from approximately $10 million for pilot plants to $300 million for commercial-scale facilities. The individual will report directly to the Vice President of Project Execution within the Brine Division. Approximately 25% travel will be required including international travel. Location: This can be in Salt Lake City, UT or Oakland, CA.Responsibilities

  • Act as the company representative with the client and selected subcontractors during the project
  • Oversee establishment of Project Execution Plan, Health and Safety Plan, Quality Assurance/Quality Control Plan, Scope Management Plan, Schedule, and other documents as required
  • Work with other managers, project engineers, and discipline leads to develop budgets, schedules, and plans for the various elements of a project
  • Mobilize company resources, through liaison with support departments, other offices, or subsidiaries, to create project teams capable of effectively executing the project
  • Plan, direct, supervise, and control the execution of all financial, technical, and administrative functions of the assigned project
  • Identify, assess, manage, and report on project risks along with risk mitigations and contingency across the program
  • Report to management on the progress of the project, including significant milestones, actual costs, committed costs, forecast costs, and schedule
  • Develop periodical project progress summary report to the client
  • Ensure Project team members are kept abreast of all information pertinent to the successful completion of their tasks
  • Establish weekly project meetings to review project status and formulate action plans
  • Follow up as necessary with team members on instructions to ensure project objectives are achieved 
  • Provide input to performance reviews and development plans for subordinates

Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 10-15 years of experience in managing the design through construction of large industrial projects including at least two projects in excess of $100 million
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence within all levels of the organization
  • Significant international experience
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of project design, engineering, procurement, material management, construction, commissioning, start-up, turnover work processes, sequencing, and interfaces
  • Jobsite experience and understanding of the construction safety programs
  • Excellent English communication skills, both orally and written
  • Proven ability to provide consistent project forecasts throughout life of project
  • Employment authorization to work in the United States immediately
  • Knowledge of project tools including 
    • Scheduling such a P6
    • Progress measurement
    • Risk assessment and management
    • Work breakdown structure
    • Change management
    • Cost control
    • Estimating process and planning
  • Basic computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, email, spreadsheets, scheduling software, and electronic presentations
  • Strong commitment to ethical business practices
  • Excited to work on a small fast-paced startup team with a drive to succeed and grow with the company
  • Experienced in contract negotiations including terms and conditions, scope of work, payment terms, performance guarantees, liquidated damages, etc.
  • Experience in managing multiple contract structures such as Lump Sum/Reimbursable/Guaranteed Maximum price/Schedule of Rates
  • Proactive - goal orientated with the initiative to influence events positively

Preferred Skills

  • Advanced degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • PMP Certification
  • Ability to resolve complex problems and to be comfortable in complex project or business environments
  • South American experience
  • Spanish oral and written language skills
  • Experience in engineering, construction in the chemicals or mining industries
  • Experience in commissioning and operational readiness
