Position Title: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner 

Department: Mental Health Services & Addiction Recovery Treatment Services 

Certification/Registration/Licensure Requirements:

  • Active and Unrestricted Medical License as a Physician or Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatric-Mental Health)
  • Valid license as a registered professional nurse, a nurse practitioner, and a nurse practitioner with prescriptive authority issued by the State of Virginia
  • Current DEA number (DATA 2000/DEA-X 100 preferred)
  • 1-year work experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing working with children, adolescents, and adults with serious mental, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders, including substance use and/or co-occurring disorders
  • Malpractice and liability insurance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations and medication management for individuals in service using the Electronic Records System.
  • Provide general medication appointments and make appropriate referrals as needed.
  • See individuals in our Mental Health Services and Substance Use Intensive Outpatient Programs, offering medication review and medical referrals/recommendations on designated days.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
  • Participate in treatment planning and contribute to the development of individualized care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient encounters and treatment interventions.
  • Adhere to all regulatory and ethical standards related to psychiatric practice and patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) preferred.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong Computer Skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Commitment to providing culturally competent and trauma-informed care.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Position can look like: 

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will work with VFS Programs to conduct Psychiatric Evaluations through the Electronic Records System for individuals in service, general medication appointments and make appropriate referrals as needed. During designated days, the NP will see individuals in our Substance Use Intensive Outpatient Program providing medication review and medical referrals/recommendations. VFS Programs include: Mental Health Skill-Building, Intensive In-Home, Crisis Residential Services, Substance Use Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization.
