Job Summary:

LIFESPAN is hiring a compassionate, hardworking, friendly, and reliable Speech Language Pathologist Assistant to assist licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in providing treatment for speech-related conditions, including but not limited to congenital, developmental, and acquired disorders. Assist speech, language, and hearing screenings using screening protocols developed by supervising SLP. Follow and implement documented treatment plans or protocols developed by SLP. Consult with SLP, colleagues, and families to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care of individuals. Document individual progress toward meeting established objectives and report information on progress to SLP. Assist in analyzing information from individual interviews and family history to help in speech development. Maintain individual records including charts and report any significant behavioral patterns to SLP. Serve as liaison between SLP, individuals, and their families. Visit individuals’ homes to assure treatment compliance.

What you'll Do:

  • Comfortable working in various settings (i.e. daycare centers, private homes, after school programs, etc.)

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Skills

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Computer Skills

This person should be proficient in using word processing software (MS Word) and spreadsheet software (MS Excel), internet and email applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree in Speech Language Pathology or a related field.
  •  NC SLPA Registration (Required)

Physical Requirements

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up and over 40 pounds with assistance according to individual abilities. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to travel as necessary to reach assigned destination in a reasonable time frame. Must be able to bend, squat, push, stoop, and pull as needed especially in fulfilling individual care activities. Must be able to meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this organization, including a physical examination. 

Working Conditions

May be exposed to blood, body fluids, burns, infectious diseases, air contaminants (including tobacco smoke), hazardous chemicals, and to the Hepatitis B virus, and will be responsible for following organizational safety policies and procedures and Health Department regulations regarding contact with any of the above. 

Additional and/or Program Specific Responsibilities:

This position requires a valid NC driver’s license, reliable transportation with at least 80% travel responsibility.
