HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) will work with school students in screening, evaluating, diagnosing, and treating disorders of communication. These disorders of speech and language may include issues with articulation, fluency, voice, verbal and written language, auditory comprehension, and cognition communication. This position will develop and execute specific components of a speech and language program as specified in an Individualized Educational Program (IEP). This position will attend all IEP meetings of assigned students and will make periodic reports on the progress of students.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: This list is illustrative only and is not intended to be a comprehensive list of tasks performed by this classification. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Coordinate and/or participate in multi-disciplinary assessments of students; collaborates with other team members in the development of multi-disciplinary reports
  • Address speech production, vocal production, and language needs of students through speech therapy
  • Work in partnership with teachers to integrate language and communication skills into regular educational activities
  • Document and collect data on all consultation sessions using the specified district platform and provide regular assessments including documentation progress
  • Maintain client files and treatment logs in an organized manner to include as well as provide appropriate documentation to interdisciplinary team
  • Conduct student screenings and/or assessments of language, voice, fluency, articulation, or hearing
  • Develop speech and language goals and objectives and deliver speech and language services as determined by an IEP
  • Develop and implement high quality, legally compliant IEPs
  • Maintain compliance in assuring educational activities and services for identified students comply with established standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Attend and participate in meetings as required (team, staff, and IEP meetings)
  • Develop instructional materials and evaluate commercially available material for treatment
  • Keep current on the latest developments and research in the field of speech therapy including assessment, treatment, and delivery of services including teletherapy
  • Serve as a resource person to teachers and other service providers
  • Manage time efficiently, follow schedule and inform appropriate personnel of departures from schedule
  • Administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:

  • Knowledge of Language, Speech, and Hearing Assessments including procedures, techniques, and instrumentation, both formal and informal, used to assess the speech and language status of children and the implications of speech/language disorders in a school or educational setting
  • Ability to work with students who display speech and language and communication deficits, students with special needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with professionals from many other disciplines
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communicative Disorders from an accredited institution required
  • Valid California Preliminary or Clear Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Services Credential required; or
  • Valid California License as a Speech-Language Pathologist; or
  • Currently enrolled in an approved SLP Services Credential program and eligible for a state-issued Waiver.
  • Skilled in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

TRAVEL: Ability to travel in performance of job duties is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mental Demands: high workflow management, high project coordination
  • Finger Dexterity: using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together
  • Talking: especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Average Hearing: able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
  • Average Visual Abilities: ordinary acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or operate machinery
  • Physical Strength: sedentary work. Sitting most of the time, and occasionally exerts up to 10 lbs. of force (almost all office jobs)
  • Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work required
  • Working in a noisy, distracting environment with frequent deadline pressures
