LifeLine Ambulance is currently seeking to fill the role of the Dispatcher to efficiently dispatch vehicles to emergent and non-emergent calls in and around the Detroit Metro area. The Dispatcher reports directly to the Dispatch Manager and plays a critical role as the first line of response for our patients and customers in emergency and non-emergency situations. The Dispatcher is responsible for effectively monitoring the dispatch system and communicating with the intake team and field crews to coordinate calls and vehicle placement as well as maintaining acceptable turnaround times. The Dispatcher does this by providing top tier customer service to medical facilities we operate with and our field staff.

Dipatcher Responsibilites:

  • Takes emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance, dispatching appropriate units, and maintaining contact with responding units to gather and supply information.
  • Enters a variety of information into applicable database(s).
  • Uses a phone, radio, and computer simultaneously.
  • Screens and processes a high volume of calls efficiently to determine the need for assistance, proper routing, and response.
  • Monitors multiple computer screens to track calls for service and all on-duty personnel.
  • Informs appropriate agencies of law enforcement, fire and/or EMS-related calls.
  • Maintains radio contact and receives reports from mobile units, monitoring their locations and ensuring their safety.
  • Clearly document communications following protocols and processes, and properly identify and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Provide information to the customer while placing appropriate notes in the system indicating exactly what action was taken or needs to be taken; attentiveness to notes/customer interaction detail for auditing, reporting, and customer experience purposes.

Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred licensure: EMT or EMD Certified and/or equivalent Dispatch experience.

  • Be reliable, and highly dependable in reporting for work on time and as scheduled, on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to independently respond and act quickly, accurately evaluate information and situations, and make appropriate decisions in routine, non-routine, and emergency situations.
  • Working knowledge of geographical layout and ability to read maps and floor plans to provide directions to crews in the field.
  • Ability to accurately interpret written policies, follow oral and written instructions, and transfer information.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise verbal directions quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to present and summarize information in a variety of written formats, using clear and concise language.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, interact with all members of the company, contracted municipalities and public, and maintain composure in highly stressful situations or when dealing with difficult individuals.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentaility of sensitive information.
