Lewis Drug is Hiring a Grocery Department Manager Near Brookings, SD

Job Title: Department Manager

Reports to: Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, Floor Manager

Desired schedule: Mon-Fri 9 am to 5 pm or 10 am to 6 pm. Some weekend flexibility is a plus.

Job Summary

The Department Manager works with the Store Merchandise Manager in the task of replenishing merchandise on a daily basis in their respective department. She/he sells merchandise utilizing product knowledge and customer service, signs and displays merchandise while maintaining stock levels.

Employee Role Expectations:

  1. Support the management schedule.
  2. Conscientious about store and department appearance.
  3. Extremely thorough and accurate in all paperwork.
  4. Assists in creating a successful work environment.
  5. Take ownership of department merchandising issues.

Qualifications:

  1. Strong interpersonal skills.
  2. Must have the initiative to execute in timely manner and finish the project at hand.
  3. Superior customer service, handle requests for customers.
  4. Ability to teach others and lead by example.
  5. Willingness to help out in seasonal sets and special events.

Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service

  1. Assisting customers with questions concerning merchandise and helping customers find the products they are looking for.
  2. Suggesting alternative products for customers if primary product is not carried 
  3. Assist customers calling the store with questions and assist other Lewis stores with customer requests.
  4. Communicate customer requests to the appropriate buyer.

Advertising & Promotional

  1. Merchandise needs to be ordered for ads and special promotions.
    1. Check daily for special promotional activity.
    2. Check the weekly advertising flyers.
    3. Continuously check the in-stock position of all current ad merchandise.
    4. Continuously check the in-stock position of all special promotions.
    5. Make sure to allow enough lead time when ordering for the merchandise to arrive.
    6. Communicate any challenges with ad merchandise to the store manager and/or appropriate buyer.
  2. Signs for advertised products or special promotions.
    1. Check to make sure that advertised product and special promotions are properly signed.
    2. Scan the departments for old ad signs after an ad has ended.

Merchandise Ordering

  1. Order from the Lewis Distribution Center (DC) to fill planogram needs 
  2. Order from approved vendors to fill planogram needs 
  3. Be aware of ordering deadlines from outside vendors and schedule appropriately.
  4. Communicate problems with out of stocks to appropriate buyer.
  5. Be aware of line changes, line drops, line additions, or substitutions and communicate these vendor challenges to the appropriate buyer.
  6. Communicate with the appropriate buyer on DC out of stocks.

Merchandise Receiving

  1. Check in the product received from the DC.
    1. All invoices should be marked off line specific as merchandise is checked in.
    2. Invoices that are complete can be destroyed.
    3. Invoices that have shortages should be communicated to the DC immediately.
    4. If shortages are not corrected by the DC within 5 days, the shortages should be noted and a mark down taken.
    5. If any additional merchandise is received not on the invoice, the DC should be notified immediately.
  2. Check in the product received from vendors.
    1. All invoices should be marked off line specific as merchandise is checked in.
    2. Invoices should be checked for key# and retails. Any omissions should be corrected.
    3. Invoices that are complete can be turned over to the receiving manager and processed for the corporate office.
    4. If shortages occur, this must be communicated to the vendor immediately. The appropriate forms and/or paperwork must also be completed.
    5. If additional merchandise is received, this information should also be communicated to the vendors immediately.
    6. Damaged merchandise problems should be communicated to the vendor immediately.
    7. If vendor orders create an overstock condition, communicate the problem to the store manager for direction.

Merchandising & Display

  1. Maintain planograms
  2. Implementing new planograms or planogram changes
  3. Maintain end caps
  4. Create floor or special displays.
  5. Create seasonal displays and merchandise seasonal planograms
  6. Stock merchandise received daily
  7. Perform daily merchandising duties
  8. Follow general merchandising rules
  9. Complete proper paperwork
