Reporting to the Director, Sustainable Resource Development for Canada Region, this position is responsible for optimizing the value of land assets, acquiring land use permits to support the Company’s business lines with their strategic plans for growth and continuous improvement. With a strong focus on land stewardship practices, the candidate will support our Washington and Oregon State operations by managing land, lease, and contractual obligations to maintain Lehigh Hanson Materials Limited’s position as an industry leader. What you’ll get to do
  • Lead and manage the process of acquiring land permits, authorizations, and agreements for business line operations as required from all levels of government and landowners. Direct public relations activities with respect to land use consultation and hearings for all permit applications.

  • Secure access to reserves and resources and facilitate other value-generating uses of lands.

  • Coordinate and manage the acquisition and divestment of properties, including the due diligence, valuation, negotiation, end land use objectives, and capital request processes to ensure maximum value is obtained.

  • Monitor and manage all land agreements, leases and contractual obligations through the Land Information System (LIS). Work effectively with land owners and tenants to maintain strong relationships and ensure good stewardship practices.

  • Review property assessments, taxes and insurance renewals as required for accuracy.

  • Develop and maintain sustainable relationships with regulators, neighbors, local community groups, and other stakeholders.

  • Carry out site inspections of properties (owned and leased) to ensure compliance at all times.

  • Work closely with Operations, Resource Development and Environment teams to track reserve depletion, reclamation obligations and timing of reserve replenishment. Assist with the identification of potential future reserves.

Who we are looking for
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, namely land use planning, geology, or other related technical or engineering fields.
  • 5 years of experience in a related land management position preferably with negotiating, due diligence and greenfield permitting experience. A working knowledge of the aggregates and/or concrete industry considered an asset.
  • A good understanding of both scientific and project management principles with respect to environmental and land stewardship for permitting initiatives.
  • Ability to negotiate and bring stakeholders together to stimulate positive change. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and relationship building skills.
  • Highly motivated and effective leadership skills. Capable of working independently and setting priorities to ensure timelines are met. Extensive travel throughout Washington and Oregon is required.
  • Must be organized and analytical with computer proficiency. Experience with ARCGIS and AutoCAD preferred.
