Summary/Objective In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Guests we serve, the Medical Records Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties relating to the updating and organizing of information on the nursing units; coordinating work within the unit as well as with other units and departments; reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responding to inquiries and requests from staff personnel, guests and families. 

 

To be eligible for consideration applicants should have:

As a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience as a Medical Records preferred.

Understanding of medical termninology

1. Records medical and administrative information in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures.

2. Establishes, develops, maintains and updates filing system for the unit. Retrieves information from files when needed.

3. Answers the telephone in a professional manner; directs calls to appropriate individuals and/or takes messages.

4. Arrange doctor appointments, follow ups and arrange transportation. ensuring the doctor's office has all information needed for insurance coverage, patient history and specifics as why they are seeing the doctor.

5. Charts nurses’ notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided as well as the resident’s response to the care.

6. Inform other departments of patient/resident changes with orders and level of care

8. Assist other departments with obtaining needed documentation and signatures from Guests, appointed guardians and family members.

9. Assists new admissions, room transfers and discharges of Guests.

10. Provides coverage for front desk and relieves receptionist for breaks.

11. Types and designs general correspondences, memos, charts, tables, graphs, etc. Proofreads copy for spelling, grammar and layout, making appropriate changes. Responsible for accuracy and clarity of final copy, scanning and uploading to PCC.
