Legacy Health System’s Laboratory is an integrated lab service. Staff may be assigned to lab facilities at different sites in the system. The Cytotechnologist prepares and microscopically examines body fluids, aspirates and gynecological smears to locate abnormal cells. Integrates information on patient’s hormonal status, age, and infectious disease state to differentiate benign states from malignant/pre-malignant states. Reports benign diagnosis without further review. Staff is expected to demonstrate optimal interpersonal skills through effective communication and cooperation with co-workers. Applies knowledge of anatomic, physiological and, as relevant, psychological processes, to provide appropriate service to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric patients, and patients with special needs.
Certification as Cytotechnologist through ASCP or other equivalent professional association as approved by Federal and/or applicable State regulations is required and meets any other Federal and/or applicable State regulations in effect. Preference given to ASCP certification and bachelors level academic work.
