Position Title: Groundskeeper FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Director of Facilities via Plant Operations Supervisor POSITION SUMMARY: Performs a variety of duties to maintain the appearance and condition of hospital grounds and landscaping. Teamwork – Work together for success. GROUNDS MAINTENANCE Plants, waters, prunes, trims, weeds and otherwise maintains flowerbeds, shrubs, trees and lawns to promote growth and improve appearance. Mows and edges grass. Cleans grounds using rakes, brooms and other equipment and removes debris. Keeps drainage ditches, culverts and storm drains free of obstructions. Installs, inspects, adjusts and repairs lawn sprinkler system. Inspects flowerbeds, shrubs, trees and lawns for evidence of insects, fungi and other pests and sprays or dusts chemicals on infected areas. Prepares seedlings, bulbs, plants and shrubbery for planting. Cultivates soil and adds fertilizer or chemicals, if needed for lawn and plant growth. Orders and picks-up items such as fertilizers, plants and tools from stores and suppliers. Paints stripes and marking for driveways and parking areas. Patches holes and pavement undermined by heavy vehicles and rainfall. Excavates for trenches for utility, footings and footwalls. Forms and pours concrete sidewalks, curbs, footings, footwalls and pavers. Repairs damage to existing rock walls, sidewalks and other outdoor masonry features. Installs, repairs and replaces bollards and fencing including posts, gates and metal fabric. Installs, repairs and replaces low voltage landscape lighting and irrigation controls, wiring and devices. Inspects hospital grounds, driveways and perimeter fences for any safety hazards and reports findings to supervisor. Maintains and performs minor repairs to electric and gas powered landscaping equipment. HOSPITAL MAINTENANCE Performs duties in Maintenance, Housekeeping and Linen/Laundry in inclement weather or as needed and assigned, and within his/her scope of training and abilities. Replaces lamps and ballasts, clears toilets, sinks and drains, and repairs faucets, toilets and drains. Transports trash and dirty linen and moves and sets up furniture and equipment. Transports clean linen to the patient care units. Assists with off-site REHAB functions. Demonstrates customer service in the daily delivery of care through positive interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors and team members. OBSERVATION OF SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Complies with REHAB’s and external safety and regulatory requirements. Reports tools and equipment that are out of order. Identifies and informs the Director of Facilities of safety hazards and non-compliance. Take immediate corrective action when needed and/or as directed. Practices safety guidelines and proper body mechanics when performing job duties. Uses appropriate equipment for personal and public safety such as wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when appropriate, using caution signs, tapes and cones, etc. ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT Prepares and maintains records and reports, as required, including equipment and system operational logs and records; material and purchasing requests; work requests dispositions. PROFESSIONALISM Demonstrates customer service daily through positive interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers. Demonstrates commitment to quality services. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Certification/Licensure: None Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Skills/Experience: Good knowledge of gardening Ability to follow verbal and written on-the-job assignments and instructions Ability to effectively communicate verbally in English to co-workers and staff Ability to safely and effectively perform assigned duties. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Skills/Experience: Previous paid work experience in gardening, landscaping, sprinkler repairs/service and light maintenance. EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, WORK AIDS USED Gas mowers, lawn vacuum, weed trimmers, hedge trimmers, chain saw, demolition hammer, post-hole digger, fence stretcher, high pressure washer, shovel, hoe, hose, rake, insecticides, fertilizers, basic hand tools, and battery hand tools. Computer, printer, 2-way radio, FAX and copy machine. Forms, records and logs.
