8 hour shift between the hours of 7:30-5:00pm

Director of Nursing

Job Description

Summary: The Director of the PDHC is responsible for administrative nursing which involves a blending of professional and administrative skills and techniques. In consultation with the referring physician, the Director evaluates the health care required by the individual patient.

The Director assists Administration in organizing and coordinating the administrative functions of the program, delegating duties and establishing formal means of accountability on the part of the PDHC staff.

The Advice of the Medical Director is consulted when problems regarding patient care or quality of services arise. The Director is responsible for quality care provided by the department and for compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws. The Director must accurately interpret the program to personnel, physicians, patients, families, community groups, and other interested parties.

Job Relationships:

1. Responsible to: Administrator

2. General supervision of all personnel at the Lauve’s Pediatric Day Health Care Facility.

3. Interrelationships:

a. Patients/parents

b. Public

c. Personnel of the PDHC

d. The Committee of the Medical Staff

e. Administration

Qualifications:

1. The DON shall hold a current licensure in the state of Louisiana without restrictions.

2. Hold a current CPR certification.

3. Hold a current certification in Basic Life Support/Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

4. Have a minimum of two years general pediatric nursing experience of which a minimum of at least 6 months shall have been spent caring for medically fragile or technology dependent infants or children in one of the following settings:

a. pediatric intensive care

b. neonatal intensive care

c. pediatric emergency care

d. PDHC facility

e. prescribed pediatric extended care center (PPEC)

f. similar care setting during the past five years

Responsibilities:

A. The supervision of all aspects of patient care to ensure compliance with Plan of care.

B. All activities of professional nursing staff and direct patient care staff to ensure compliance with current standards of accepted nursing and medical practice.

C. Compliance with all federal and state laws, rules and regulations related to the delivery of nursing care and services.

D. Daily clinical operations of Lauve’s Pediatric Day Health Care Center.

E. Implementation of personnel and employment policies to ensure only qualified personnel are hired (see specific p/p), including verification of license, and or certification prior to employment and annually thereafter.

F. maintaining record to support competency of all nursing & direct care staff (see competency forms and related p/p)

G. Implementation of policy & procedures that establish & support quality patient care (see related p/p regarding patient care)

H. Development, implementation and supervision of employee health program in accordance with state laws, rules & regulations.

I. Providing for orientation & in-service training to employees to promote effective Lauve’s Pediatric Day Health Care services and safety to the patient and familiarize the staff with regulations as well as agency policies (see related p/p- employee orientation, training).

J. Performing timely nursing & direct care annual evaluations (see form & p/p).

K. Ensuring that Lauve’s Pediatric Day Health Care has an appropriate mechanism for disciplinary action for nursing staff and direct patient care staff.

L. Assuring participation in regularly scheduled continuing education for all nursing & direct patient care staff (see p/p pertaining to this subject).

M. Assuring that the care provided by nursing staff and direct patient care staff is that of such to promote effective care at Lauve’s Pediatric Day Health Care.

N. Being on site during regular normal operating hours.
