Position Summary

The Marketing and Digital Initiatives Coordinator helps to increase the visibility of the Museum and expand audiences by leading the Museum’s digital engagement tactics and contributing to overall marketing efforts. This position will work closely with the Manager of Marketing, Communications & Visitor Services and have a strategic focus on the creation and management of digital assets. The Coordinator will oversee the Museum’s owned media channels, including website, social media platforms, and email system. The ideal candidate will be a storyteller and self-starter with a passion for social media and website content management; they will have excellent writing skills, proficiency in analytics, an eye for design, and interest in art and museums. Reports to the Manager of Marketing, Communications & Visitor Services.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Overall content creation and digital tracking responsibilities include:

  • Develops digital content by working closely with the Marketing Manager as well as the Curatorial and Education teams.
  • Adheres to brand guidelines across all communications channels.
  • Initiate and manages the development of photography and video content, targeted for each channel’s audience.
  • Conceptualizes new avenues for reaching audiences based on current digital media trends and initiatives, including those being implemented by the University and peer institutions, staying abreast of news about artists and events the Museum could share or respond to online.
  • Tracks social media, email, and website analytics, offering data-driven recommendations for improvements and adjustments.
  • Stays up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in digital marketing.

Website content management responsibilities include:

  • Performs day-to-day website content management.
  • Project manages content creation and approval processes for all website updates.
  • Serves as the liaison with the website designer and developer when server-side changes are needed or requested.
  • Updates the Museum’s website in keeping with best accessibility and SEO practices.

Social media responsibilities include:

  • Manages day-to-day social media activities.
  • Develops content with the goal of enhancing the Museum’s social media engagement and interaction.
  • Maintains the social media calendar and publishing posts.
  • Responds to comments and messages.

Email campaign responsibilities include:

  • Creates an email content plan and overall calendar.
  • Develops and publishes the Museum’s weekly e-newsletters and periodic email campaigns.
  • Manages contact lists.

On-campus marketing responsibilities include:

  • Developing posters, flyers, digital signage, and other marketing materials to be used across the WashU campus
  • Overseeing a student graphic designer in the development of materials, ensuring they meet brand guidelines and that materials are are delivered and distributed within deadline
  • Representing the Museum at on-campus events, such as student opportunities fairs, as appropriate


Preferred Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree in journalism, communications, marketing, art history, or a related field.
  • Two years of well-rounded digital marketing experience, including creating social media content and website management.
  • Experience using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, and LinkedIn) for business purposes and email services such as Constant Contact and Emma.
  • Proficiency with CMS platforms and proficiency or ability to become proficient with web analytics tools and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with photo and video editing.
  • Familiarity with graphic design and video editing software, including Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficiency with SEO/SEM.
  • Familiarity with cultural institutions and higher education environments and interest in art and art museums.
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing strategies, including SEO and performance marketing.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Great communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Creative and proactive thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people and nurture an equitable, inclusive, and accessible experiences for all audiences and users.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification and five years of experience.
  • OR Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience.

Salary Range

$20.76 - $32.21 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
