Landbird manages small businesses in the transportation industry with systems implementation, human resources management, fleet management, and technical support so that the operating companies can focus on daily service delivery execution. Landbird also facilitates company expansions, assisting successful regional businesses with expansion to new markets. Landbird structures acquisitions of family or founder-run lower middle-market businesses providing post-transaction back office services and management.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Fleet Operations Manager ensures that Landbird businesses have a reliable fleet of vehicles that serve diverse business needs: rental vehicles, delivery trucks, and tractors. Vehicle management responsibilities include routine maintenance, damage repairs, vendor relationships, and vehicle acquisition & disposal: everything necessary to keep vehicles safe, compliant, and in operation. The Fleet Operations Manager directly manages a team of mobile mechanics and indirectly manages third party maintenance vendors.

This role has visibility into many different business functions across our portfolio companies and will have daily interactions with on-site managers, the VP of Operations, and the CEO. The position is based in Derry, NH with frequent travel to Boston, Manchester, and Quincy. The position reports to the VP of Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all aspects of the daily operations management of fleet vehicles and drivers
  • Manage a team of diesel mechanics to support repairs and maintenance at the Landbird shop as well as Landbird business sites throughout new England
  • Perform fleet management duties, including maintaining records, preventative maintenance, repair, purchasing and disposal
  • Assume full ownership of the fleet database and vehicle records
  • Analyze vehicle inspection reports to prioritize and execute repairs and service requests
  • Partner with vendors for vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Manage the repair shop in Derry and inventory at remote locations around New England
  • Support the planning of new vehicle orders, in-service and disposal of fleet vehicles
  • Manage all damage repairs & claim processes with insurance companies, vendors & responsible parties
  • Partner with the operations team to implement appropriate company policies and procedures
  • Compile key performance metrics weekly to inform company dashboards
  • Adhere to a clear and reasonable task and project budget
  • Help create and maintain our company culture
  • Special projects as assigned

EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

  • Direct experience as a mechanic/technician and/or manager of mechanics; 2 years equivalent management experience
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient with current technology (Slack, GSuite, MS Office, Zoom, etc.) used for office management, communication, and meeting management
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to correspond with managers, drivers, vendors, etc.
  • Flexibility: You are ready to dive into anything and thrive in a fast-growing, always-changing environment.
  • “People-person” with a proven track record of building strong relationships and handling difficult conversations
  • Positive attitude, kind spirit, and humble outlook
  • Bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check
  • Valid driver's license with safe driving record

COMPENSATION

  • $70-85K annually, commensurate with experience and skills
