Essential Functions:

  • Perform on-site audits of title agent and law firm trust/escrow accounting records and real estate closing transactions
  • Compose comprehensive audit reports to the client and for internal senior management documenting the audit findings, including any violations found.
  • Conducting complex remote and on-site audits and making suggestions to enhance the audit process
  • Identifying and researching issues and then providing supported analysis proposing solutions
  • Analysis will include inspecting and reviewing bank reconciliations, banking records, invoices, receipts, disbursements, settlement statements, lender documents, ledgers, client journals, financial records of trust and escrow accounts
  • Work with senior auditor and/or audit manager to compose comprehensive audit reports to be provided to the client documenting the audit findings, including any violations found
  • Preparing clear documentation of conclusions
  • Schedule of audits to be performed monthly at the direction of the Audit Manager
  • Scheduling calls and transcribing emails and other communications related to audits and administrative orders
  • Ensuring work papers comply with department standards
  • Assisting with special projects, including process improvement initiatives
  • Preparing final audit reports and distributing to clients and senior management after review from senior auditor or Audit Manager
  • Assist with producing and reviewing bank reconciliations and work with various closing software systems
  • Work with lead auditor or Senior Auditor to ensure reviews and audits are completed accurately and audit findings and audit reports are accurate prior to sending to client and senior management
  • Travel is required

Education, Formal Training, and Experience

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Criminal Justice or a related field. (Preferred)
  • 1-4 years of experience in auditing, accounting, insurance underwriting, title or real estate escrow, banking or other related areas.
  • Some operational auditing, banking, or knowledge of real estate closing process is required.
  • Knowledge of real estate closing software systems is a plus. (Ramquest, Title Express, Qualia, SoftPro, Resware, Landtech, Closer’s Choice)
  • Title industry knowledge (Licensed Title Agent or Escrow Officer)

  • Strong analytical, audit, and investigative skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate briefly and concisely
  • Effective time management - deadline critical
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting

Reasoning Ability

Ability to analyze financial records and data, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
