Lake County is Hiring a Health Information Technician Near IL 60085, IL

Physically located on-site at the Health Department, the Health Information Technician (HIT) serves our community as the primary point of contact for Health Information Management (HIM). Under minimal supervision, the HIT plays an important role in ensuring that patients utilizing Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center’s diverse programs are treated with courtesy and that their needs are met in an efficient and timely manner. This individual will process, maintain, and release medical records in compliance with all federal and state regulatory requirements and agency policies, perform Quality Assurance audits, generate reports, and maintain Master Patient Index integrity.

  • Appropriately respond to requests for patient information in a timely manner ensuring that a valid Authorization for Release of Information (ROI), subpoena, or court order is obtained in accordance with all federal and state statutes and facility policies.
  • Conduct compliance audits.
  • Act as a liaison between the Release of Information Vendor, Health Information Management, Providers, and Central Billing Office regarding ROI functions.
  • Act as an ROI resource for HIM Clerks.
  • Identify and merge duplicate data in the Master Patient Index.
  • Provide Patient Portal support.
  • Generate monthly reports as requested. 
  • Request Document Destruction Certificate from the State of Illinois in accordance with the standards of the Local Records Commission.
  • Attend appropriate in-service education, mandatory in-service drills, staff meetings, and seminars for professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Associate Degree in Health Information Management is required. 
  • AHIMA RHIT or RHIA certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Possess a robust understanding of HIPAA/patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret, laws, ordinances, regulations, and established policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with great accuracy.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with employees at all levels as well as our diverse clientele.
