JOB TITLE: Routing Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists in the development and implementation of district-wide school bus schedules for transporting students to and from school in the safest, most cost effective and time efficient manner. Help prepare accurate state reports to ensure appropriate financial reimbursement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development and maintenance of bus schedules for all students, utilizing computerized transportation routing and student database system.
  • Primary point of contact for scheduling of displaced students under the McKinney Vento Act. Responsible for reviewing the need for all aides on buses.
  • Maintains communication and harmonious relationships with contractors, principals, and parents using diplomacy, tact, and discretion to ensure the daily transportation of students to and from school, and determine needs of the students.
  • Possesses strong geographic knowledge of the Coatesville Area School District and surrounding areas.
  • Assists with field inspections of bus routes, bus stops and student loading zones to evaluate safety and efficiency.
  • Processes and responds to mail and calls pertaining to transportation.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining monthly calendar of closings, early dismissals, and late openings for public, non-public, Charter, and specialized school programs.
  • Assists in maintaining the transportation software, overseeing student, school, and mapping information.
  • Assists with preparation of all transportation reports for submission to the state for subsidy purposes.
  • Required to drive school buses and or school vehicles in the event of an emergency or district need.
  • Maintains availability, responding to snow/emergency calls as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Routing Management

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the abilities needed to perform the essential function of this position in a field environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.·

  • At least one year related experience in public school transportation.
  • Knowledge of / prior work experience with routing software preferred
  • Deep geographical knowledge of districts and surrounding communities including routes, stops, schools and roadways
  • Computer literacy - knowledge of database software; Internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to exhibit a positive attitude and be able to handle difficult situations professionally and in a non-confrontational manner being firm, fair and consistent
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
  • A valid commercial driver’s license with a passenger endorsement or willingness to obtain one as required by district/area
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and physical exam certifications as required
