Founded in 2002, KIPP Memphis serves over 1,200 K-12 students in our three North Memphis schools and almost 900 alumni on their journeys to-and-through college with our KIPP Forward Program.

Job Description

The effects of the pandemic and increased violence against Black people have created fresh and profound challenges for the communities we serve. In order to address these challenges, create solutions, and manage resources for our students and families, KIPP Memphis is hiring a Family Engagement Specialist whose responsibilities include:

  • Improving and increasing the frequency of communication with families through designing and managing platforms, including Parentsquare, social media, progress reports, PTO conferences, and Parent University
  • Serving as the point person for the school and community resources related to COVID 19, ensuring that each student and family has access
  • Liasing with the parent leader to ensure parent meetings are occurring quarterly
  • Partnering with community organizations and attending community meetings on behalf of the the school, with the stated goal of open lines of communication between our community partners
  • Hosting virtual information sessions to teach parents to use technology and online learning platforms
  • Serving as a liaison to local agencies that are providing assistance with employment, food, and housing for KIPP Families

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:

  • Collaborate with school staff, families, and the community in developing and implementing services and programs
  • Provide leadership and vision to ensure compliance in matters relating to student discipline, alternative education, child welfare and attendance, guidance services, and school safety. 
  • Support school student recruitment and enrollment
  • Serves as a member of the school attendance team
  • Provide input and assist with publishing the Parent Guide to support students 
  • Develop and support programs and initiatives to family needs in the areas of social/emotional development on a micro and a macro scale
  • Serve as the main contact for foster care, homeless agencies
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new community partners
  • Incorporate policies and procedures in accordance with laws and regulations 
  • Work with the Assistant Principal of Culture implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) at each school
  • Ensure families understand the Student Code of Conduct
  • Develop and monitor programs and initiatives to family needs in the areas of social/emotional development on a micro and a macro scale
  • Serve as the main contact for McKinney Vento and Foster Care
Qualifications

Required:

  • 1-3 years relevant work experience serving a similar student population
  • Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following areas: Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration
  • Experience in recruiting, meeting facilitation and promoting parent engagement activities such as Parent Teacher Organization, Parent Council, and Parent University
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders across the school including School Operations team, School Leaders, and Parent Leaders
  • Knowledge of local and national community services and partnership opportunities.
  • Comfortable working with social media
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrates cultural competence around our student population
Additional Information

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience, degree attainment, and credentials. A competitive benefits package will also be offered. 

ADA Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing and actively monitoring student behavior while teaching

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

  • Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child

  • Must be able to facilitate classroom transitions by walking through hallways and up and down stairs with students
