Job Title: Quality Control Inspector
Department: Base Operations & Maintenance
Job Summary:
This position will be in charge of the inspection of environmental compliance, including but not limited to air emissions, stormwater, waste management, industrial hygiene, and construction project safety oversight.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Duties/Responsibilities:
Perform facility inspections to determine compliance with appropriate regulations, permits, and consent orders, including but not limited to RCRA, CAA Title V, SWPPP, and SPDES
Collects samples from state waters, soil, and discharges for field and laboratory analyses to determine the environmental quality and compliance; documents findings
Makes regular inspections of sites to ascertain types of wastes produced, sources and volume of wastes, the efficiency of treatment, disposal methods, compliance with laws and regulations, issued permit conditions, reclamation contracts, best management practices, or to determine the condition of state waters, or to evaluate surface mining and reclamation practices
Inspect sites under construction and/or during operation to comply with contracts, permits, or best management practices
In accordance with approved emergency response procedures, respond to spills or releases of pollutants, some of which may be hazardous substances
Consult with supervisor on observations, variances cited in complying with regulations, and problems noted during inspections to determine courses of action that will accomplish the regulatory objectives
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficient written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry
Proficient Microsoft Office productivity suite
RCRA/DOT Hazardous Material Waste Management and Transportation training.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent
At least five years of related experience required
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to load noises
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times
Ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands as necessary
Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels
Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
Special Qualifications/Requirements:
Must be able to pass successfully, as required, a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
OSHA 40 certified
OSHA 10 certified
Preferred certification as a Registered Code Enforcement Officer
