Kids Unlimited is actively looking for a talented Executive Chef!

This unique position allows for you to oversee day to day operations of a state of the art growing food program!

$60,000 - $70,000 Starting Salary DOE!

Job Summary:

The Executive Chef oversees day to day commercial food operations which provide thousands of cooked from scratch meals daily to children at our Kids Unlimited Medford and White City campuses. The Executive Chef also oversees the daily delivery of hundreds of cooked from scratch suppers and snacks to Kids Unlimited afterschool programs throughout the Rogue Valley. The position requires familiarity of managing operations, hiring and training employees at our commercial kitchen sites in addition to overseeing purchasing, assuring meal compliance with federal and state organizations and coordination and implementation of food system programming and partnerships.

The Executive Chef will be required to monitor the kitchen operations throughout Kids Unlimited of Oregon's operations to ensure the quality of food; that the food is properly prepared and served; and the Kids Unlimited food programs are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and performance standards.

NUTRITION

  • Ensure that the Kids Unlimited food program meets all federal and state laws, performance standards, and regulations in the area of nutrition services as it relates to food services;
  • Provide leadership in area of nutrition, assisting in the development and implementation of program goals, new recipes, and staff development;
  • Educate staff and parents about children's nutritional needs as related to food service;
  • Develop and ensure training and technical assistance is provided to staff and families on relevant food service and nutrition topics, as needed;
  • Design and implement afterschool culinary classes for children attending Kids Unlimited.

FOOD SERVICE

  • Oversees all on-site elements of food services to ensure the highest quality from scratch food;
  • Under direction from the Chief People Officer, responsible for maintaining compliance with all federal and state funded food programs;
  • Maintain cost efficient food service by collecting and evaluating bids from food vendors, maintain monthly food budget, initiating and reviewing cost controls, etc.;
  • Purchase equipment and supplies for kitchens and food service;
  • Develop and design and/or remodel kitchen/food preparation facilities in Kids Unlimited of Oregon facilities to meet all guidelines, regulations, and program needs;
  • Develop and design entrepreneurial programs linking children, staff, and community partners with food products made, designed, and marketed by Kids Unlimited.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

  • Establish and maintain relationships and collaboration with appropriate community agencies and professionals;
  • Oversee ongoing development of the Kids Unlimited garden program;
  • Develop and maintain positive public relations and parent involvement.

ASSESSMENT, MONITORING, AND PLANNING

  • Monitor the nutrition and food services of the program, including but not limited to: safety and sanitation, etc.;
  • Train and assist Head Chefs to monitor food service, kitchens, and record keeping;
  • Assist with the development of budgets.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Educational Requirements: B.A./B.S. in nutrition, food service management, business administration, or related field; or AA degree in nutrition, food service management, or certified dietary manager, dietetic technician, or related field; or commensurate experience and training and two years experience supervising a commercial kitchen.

Experience Requirements: Two years of management experience including food service, budget responsibilities and supervision preferred. Prior experience with food service for children preferred.

Mental Abilities Required: Careful attention to detail; manage multiple tasks; work independently and as a team; initiate and manage own workload; maintain confidentiality of related information as required by state and federal regulations and Kids Unlimited standards; must possess ability to organize, analyze, and make sound judgments.

Physical Requirements: Adequate vision, hearing & speech; ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift, bend, kneel, stoop, and carry up to 40 pounds; capacity to travel to all sites and required meetings.
