The Keweenaw Co-op, our area’s leading natural food and products retailer, is seeking to fill an Information Technology Manager role in Hancock, MI. The IT Manager is responsible for managing the IT infrastructure of the Co-op, administration of IT daily operations and procedures, and improving IT systems & technology to support business objectives. This role designs, monitors and supports IT systems while maintaining compliance with internal policies and procedures, including those relating to efficiency, customer experience, sustainability, and cybersecurity. The IT Manager ensures efficient service and provides for longer-term stability and development of capability in our current facility and for our future home.
Information Technology Manager Duties and Responsibilities Include
- Manage the IT Department, Staff and outside technical support
- IT Systems Administration: Point-of-Sale System, Google Workspace, Keeper Security and other IT Systems/Databases. Provide on-call assistance during all open business hours
- Direct IT Security: protocols, permissions, systems, and PCI compliance
- Oversee Network management
- Purchase, install, update and administer all IT Hardware and Software
- Manage IT-related infrastructure: Network, Internet, Security, Phone and Intercom Systems
- Team Member of Admin Team, Promotions Team, and Operations Team
DETAILS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the IT Department, Staff and Consultants
- Create and maintain IT Manager drives and IT Team drives, all documentation, guides, and SOPs
- Generate and propose annual departmental budget to GM
- Plan strategic upgrades and innovations for IT to support business growth and customer experience
- Hire and manage IT staff for tasks related to IT; utilize storewide management and review systems for employees within Paylocity
- Hire and manage IT Consultants
- Network with other IT departments at Cooperatives; be an active participant in NGC’s IT Forum or at assigned conferences; create supportive relationships with the IT community
- Utilize National Cooperative Grocers (NCG) IT resources
- Participate in Management/Support Team responsibilities as designated, such as policy development, budgeting and other team coverage as needed
IT Systems Administration: Point-of-Sale System; Google Workspace, Keeper Security and other IT Systems/Databases -
- Identify and correct IT problems as they arise
- Provide on-call assistance during all open business hours
- Point-of-Sale:
- Serve as primary Administrator for ECRS Catapult
- Function as main contact for ECRS; maintain ticket procedure for tech support
- Monitor ECRS communications for updates, related system changes and outages
- Research and implement all Catapult modules as needed
- Responsible for preventative maintenance for scales, workstations and registers
- Configure functions for retail business and cooperative ownership structure
- Set up and manage all Employee security profiles and access to hardware and software
- Coordinate procedures for staff utilization of POS hardware and software
- Train staff as needed for more complex POS tasks
- Oversee database integrity; import and export data as needed for external access
- Google Workspace (GW):
- Serve as Administrator
- Configure and maintain all Organizational Units, Groups, Shared Drives, Chromebook management, Mobile management and Enterprise for operational and Board of Directors access
- Set-up User accounts and security settings, Groups and Drives access, and aliases
- Design Shared Drive hierarchy and individual User Drive procedures for document retention and integrity
- Create and maintain internal staff website; online staff newsletter, forms for internal and external purposes and other shared communication or collaboration methods
- Configure GW Apps and Extensions: Gmail, Calendars, Tasks, Tasksboard, Keep Keeper Security and other IT systems/databases
- Server as Administrator and/or the KCI Account Manager for IT systems/databases
- Serve as a backup Administrator for other IT systems (Paylocity, Financial, etc.) in the absence of other managers
Direct IT Security - protocols, systems, and PCI compliance
- Data Protection – Ensure the collection, security and integrity of Co-op data
- Monitor trends and industry information regarding IT Security
- Suggest protocols to GM for manager-level adoption
- Implement systems to mitigate risk of network, devices, online systems, data, and user-end/ password vulnerabilities
- Complete PCI compliance assessments; Maintain secure customer payment management
Oversee Network management
- Develop network usage, resources and documentation, PCI compliance, and direct IT audits as needed
- Hire and manage on-call Network Administrator/Manager
- Purchase network and security hardware and software; assist with installation
- Oversee and direct the network architecture; license maintenance and upgrades
- Create and update network troubleshooting guide for managers
Purchase, install and administer all IT hardware and software
- Research, purchase, configure, install and oversee maintenance of all IT hardware including all POS equipment, desktops, laptops, tablets, ordering devices, printers/copiers, phones, and associated peripherals
- Research, purchase, configure and install all software, maintain licenses and coordinate service billing
- Assist with user training and app/service troubleshooting as needed
- Set-up and maintain administrative accounts on all devices
- Create user accounts on all devices and manage software access
- Configure VPNs as needed
Manage IT infrastructure - Network, Internet, Security, Phone and Intercom systems
- Maintain all systems and upgrade when needed
- Oversee design and proper maintenance of IT infrastructure including cabling, connections, and devices for wireless access points, security cameras, phone system/extensions, intercom/music system, alarm system, refrigeration temperature monitoring
- Work with store management to provide seamless integration of technology
- Provide user access as needed for these systems
- Contact person for surveillance system; download photos or save video as needed for evidence in shoplifting, burglary or other activity as needed
- Train MOD/managers on surveillance cameras for loss prevention
- Create and update troubleshooting guides for users
Knowledge, Abilities and Experience
- Superior knowledge of computers, relational databases, and spreadsheets
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining computer hardware and IT systems
- Experience with Point of Sale systems, preferably ECRS Catapult

Requirements
Working Conditions
- Frequently performs work in a retail grocery store and office environment.
- Works in temperature extremes (walk-in freezer, frozen or hot parking lot, server room, hot kitchen, etc.).
- Utilizes hand trucks, pallet jacks, grocery carts, box cutters, electronic ordering devices.
- Utilizes servers, cash registers, computers, tablets, office machines, fax machines, scanners, photocopiers, telephone and intercom systems.
- Utilizes multiple systems of communication and data storage.
- Nature of work: 60-75% administrative; 25-40% staff supervision
- May come into contact with hazardous materials in relation to cleanliness of the store.
- Moderate noise level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years experience managing hardware and software systems.
- Knowledge of IT capability needed for natural foods retail processes.
- Familiarity with SPINS tools or ability to learn them within the first 30 days of hire.
- A basic understanding of the Cooperative business model and the natural foods industry.
- Understanding of retail business key indicators, margin, pricing and inventory control.
- Willingness and ability to learn to meet the changing requirements of the job.
- Able to work at least one weekend/month, early morning, late evening, or overnight shifts as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least two year's experience in grocery management, particularly in a retail, natural foods, or cooperative environment.
- Training or leadership experience related to grocery or retail environments or cooperatives.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to use computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and office equipment continuously.
- Ability to lift and carry between 20 and 50 pounds frequently.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach above shoulder height, and climb stairs/ladders occasionally.
- Ability to use fine motor skills for typing, grasping, manipulating objects with fingers.
- Ability to write or type reports, and complete checklists in written or digital format.
- Ability to read and interpret small print and alphanumeric product codes.
