  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, English, journalism, or related
field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in strategic communications with increasing levels of
responsibility and supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated record in communications, public relations, and broad functional
experience in strategic planning and assessment/measurement.
  • Experience in the higher education industry is preferred.
  • Experience with project planning while meeting deadlines and operation efficiencies.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of effective supervisory ability.

Duties
  • Develop and manage news, communications, reputational, and thought-leadership
strategies to promote the Kettering University brand and support enrollment, retention,
alumni engagement, and garner donor and grant-based gifts.
  • Serves as the lead for internal communications, public and media relations, collaboration
with external affairs, crisis communications, issues management, and the university
intranet
  • Serves as a communications advisor to the Vice President of University Marketing and
Communications and a member of the University’s Emergency Response Team.
  • Responsible for the strategy, content development, editorial style, and measurement of
communications activities, including media pitches and earned media. This includes
higher education, automotive, engineering, economic development media, and more.
  • Responsible for media measurement and the effective leveraging of Merit to champion
the successes of our students.
  • Responsible for the strategy and collaborative content development for Bulldog Weekly -
the University’s internal newsletter, the Kettering University Magazine, the annual
Philanthropy Report, Commencement and Convocation programs, and Horsepower to
Hyperloops – the Kettering University podcast.
  • Ensures internal and external compliance with brand standards through consistent
application of developed communication styles and standards.
  • Cultivates a robust catalog of messaging and story assets to be leveraged to support
Enrollment Management and Co-operative Education, Student Affairs, as well as
University Advancement and External Relations, and the Office of the President.
  • Leadership and supervision of the communication functional area to include a
communication specialist.
  • Supports the strategy, content development, and maintenance of flagship social media
accounts in alignment with communication and marketing initiatives.
  • Adheres to an agreed-upon budget and is involved in the budgeting process annually.
  • Serve as liaison to University Advancement and External Relations
