Job Title: Quality Assurance Manager Position Location: Salem, OR Business Unit: Kerr Concentrates POLICY GUIDANCE – Kerr Concentrates, (Kerr) is committed to the SQF 2000 Code as the standard that ensures both the quality and food safety systems are complaint with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) requirements. Primary Function The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager directs and coordinates all Quality Control (QC), QA and Food Safety functions at Kerr Concentrates, Salem, OR and Oxnard, CA facilities. Supervision: 5 people Reports to: General Manager Key Deliverables As part of the KLT (Kerr Leadership Team), this role is responsible to set Kerr’s quality culture and functional expertise to the highest possible level. A strategic road map will be set to align the quality function with the organizational priorities, growth direction and team development. Responsible for implementing and monitoring programs and procedures on a plant level that ensures consistent high-quality products to customers. Ensure that all work activities of direct and indirect reports are performed with attention to the highest standards of food quality, safety, compliance with all appropriate legal requirements and a focus on continuous improvement. Review all customer complaints and define permanent solutions to deviations for both the Salem. OR and Oxnard, CA locations. Oversee the development of the QA, Sanitation, Regulatory Compliance and the QC staff. Maintain and manage the departmental budget for monthly review by the General Manager. Maintain SQF 2000 Code (Level 3) Quality and Food Safety System up to date and audit ready. Audit Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures and practices and drive continuous improvement with an emphasis in efficiency, accuracy and completeness. Direst and audit QA, QC and Sanitation programs. Coordinate with Operations, Sales, Customer Service and Maintenance staff in the continuous improvement of quality systems and plant conditions. Oversee Identity Preserved food programs (e.g. Kosher, Organic, GMO, Allergen) Maintain as accurate Cost of Non-conformance for Quarterly (or as requested) review by the Executive Team. Direct the efficient collection and organization of all QA and QC data. Direct the organization and efficacy of product specification database, Process Logic Test and CoA functions. Investigate the root cause of deviations and customer complaints with QA/QC and Operations teams to ensure understanding and permanent corrective actions. Direct Quality related technical communications with customers. Work with customers in defining specification expectations and value ranges. Review new customer specifications with QA/QC staff ensuring understanding and proper implementation. Assist Regulatory Compliance Manager with customers, third party, and regulatory audits. Assist Operations, Sales, and Customer Service team with problem solving and troubleshooting related to finished product, documentation and customer management. Primary contact for audits related to the QA/QC systems. Collaborate with Regulatory Compliance Manager in updating and improving HACCP program. Responsible for Janitorial Services contract and ensuring performance standards are met. Stay current with pertinent scientific literature and emerging technologies and make recommendations for the establishment of new methods to detect, enumerate, and identify microorganisms of concern. Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Food Science, Microbiology, or Chemistry or relevant post bachelor training and certification. At least 8-10 years of Quality Management experience. Certifies in SQF or ISO 22000 or capable of obtaining certification. Good understanding of Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and juice HAACP regulations. Experience in managing GFSI Quality and Food Safety systems. Read analyze and interpret common scientific, regulatory, and technical literature. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies of members of the business community. Effectively present information to senior management, public groups or board of directors. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to read and interpret an analytical balance. Write routine reports and correspondence in a consistently professional and courteous manner. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations of permutations. Apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency, distributions, determination test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
