POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manager, People & Culture works on KERA’s People & Culture (P&C) team and reports directly to the VP, People Strategy. This position is responsible for helping to manage the full employee life cycle – from the development of the job description to internal/external job postings, active recruitment, and onboarding, through offboarding.
The Manager, People & Culture will design and implement active recruiting strategies for open positions and will be expected to look ahead and develop and maintain candidate pools for future open positions. The Manager is expected to stay knowledgeable of best and most equitable HR practices for all aspects of employee lifecycle processes and make recommendations to updating KERA practices and policies when needed.
This position will also design and execute KERA’s paid internship and fellowship programs with an eye toward growing both programs in an equitable and inclusive way. Additionally, the Manager, People & Culture will work with the P&C and Executive Office teams to develop and execute DEIB initiatives and programs, as set by DEIB Leadership.
The position is FLSA classified as exempt and is not eligible for overtime.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Lead recruitment efforts for all staff, interns, fellows and contractors. Manage full life cycle of recruitment, including posting, sourcing, prescreening, scheduling, background and reference checks, offers, onboarding, etc.
  • Partner with VP, People Strategy to forecast hiring needs based on business growth plans, build talent pipelines for current and future job openings, and develop a network of potential future hires
  • Create and implement talent acquisition strategies for leadership, mid-career and early-career hiring
  • Design and implement training program for hiring managers and panel participants on inclusive recruiting, interviewing and hiring practices that result in well-qualified and diverse applicant pools
  • Oversee all stages of candidate experience including application, interviews and communication
  • Improve and manage the onboarding process for all new hires, and manage offboarding process, including exit interviews
  • Work with the Finance department to manage contracts for all freelancers and contract employees
  • Use data from past exit interviews to design and execute paid internship and fellowship programs including (but not limited to):
    • Recruiting and onboarding new intern cohorts each semester (Fall, Winter, Summer)
    • Develop a cadence of communication with interns/fellows and hiring manager to help ensure the program and position is meeting its goals
    • Plan and execute social/connection activities for the intern cohort
  • With the People & Culture team, help execute annual performance review cycle
  • With the VP, People strategy, assist with annual compliance reporting
  • Work with P&C and Executive Office teams to execute and implement DEIB programs and initiatives per the DEIB annual plan and strategy

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a Human Resources or People Team role
  • Proven experience managing full life cycle of the employee experience, especially recruitment and hiring
  • Hands-on experience with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and/or HRIS
  • Thorough understanding of recruiting methods and best practices, as well as applicable policies and federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • An empathetic leader with strong interpersonal skills
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to develop long-term relationships with internal teams, external partners and candidates
  • The ability to quickly build trust and maintain confidentiality
  • A problem-solver with strong negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Passion for improving organizational culture through a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
BONUS IF YOU BRING:
  • Fluent in Spanish and/or other languages common in Texas
  • Employee relations experience and/or the ability to navigate and resolve complex situations
  • Experience and excitement about working with students/interns/fellows and other early career professionals
  • Passion for and experience with public media
  • Experience in a journalism or media organization
  • Knowledge of North Texas people, cultures, issues, and geography
SALARY RANGE
$67,000 - $77,000, depending on experience.

LOCATION:
KERA welcomes a hybrid working environment. We expect that this position will work out of our Dallas office at least 50% of the time.
