By joining our Transportation Cabinet/Department of Highways/ Division of Incident Management as a Safety Administrator in Breathitt County, you’ll have the opportunity to work with first responder agencies in his or her region to ensure safe and expeditious clearance of incidents that impact our transportation systems.
Holders of the Safety Administrator position will complete tasks such as:
  • Respond to and assist with coordination and implementation of clearance efforts of motor vehicle crashes on the roadways in the Commonwealth.
  • Work with local, county and state and federal agencies in preparation, planning and policy development related to incidents that impact the transportation system.
  • Provide training to public and private entities that respond to traffic incidents to maximize safety and develop best practices for clearance efforts.
  • Coordinate and facilitate emergency relief efforts during declared disasters.
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
  • Strong knowledge and experience of public safety agencies roles and responsibilities related to incidents that impact transportation systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of Incident Management based unified command principles, procedures, and structure.
  • Experience of providing training for groups across multiple disciplines and specialties.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Five years of experience in area of safety operations, incident management, or emergency services
  • Ability to respond as needed (24/7/365) to incidents
  • Experience creating, reviewing, and implementing response plans for public safety or incident management scenarios.
  • Experience working in a NIMS / FEMA based organizational framework / structure.
Incumbent must be able to make oral presentations. Travel may be required.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Five years of experience in area of safety operations or inspection, incident management, or emergency services.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, safety operations and/or inspection, incident management, or emergency services experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Incumbent must be able to make oral presentations. Travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
