Summary

We are looking for an Assistant Trades Master to join the City of Charleston's Parks Department! In this role, you will be responsible for constructing, maintaining and repairing public facilities, property, streets, sidewalks or rights-of-way using a variety of machines, tools, and equipment.
Examples of Duties

  • Performs repairs on various types of facilities and equipment, specializing in one of the following trades disciplines: electrical, painting, plumbing, carpentry, water/sewer pumping, masonry, or HV/AC systems.
  • Operates specialized equipment and tools related to the trade discipline.
  • Instructs other members of crews in proper operational procedures and techniques.
  • Assists the supervisor in coordinating the tasks to be performed by the crew; supervises the crew in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Specific duties depend on trade disciple, and may include: removing, pouring and finishing cement sidewalks and curbing; laying brick, cinder block, bluestone, Belgium Block, and other special construction material; cutting, removing, and replacing asphalt; cutting, repairing, and laying concrete, drainage pipes, and/or drainage catch basins; maintaining and repairing playground equipment.
  • Drives a pickup truck to deliver tools, materials, equipment, etc.
  • Assists in taking measurements of the worksite and in deciding quantities and types of material and equipment needed, may requisition or purchase supplies and equipment.
  • Works extended hours, as necessary, during shutdowns of equipment and/or buildings.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
