MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

GENERAL SUMMARY

Develops, implements, and coordinates the continuous improvement program to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products, systems and processes. Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing engineering processes in the production cells. Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of designated project to ensure that goals or objectives of project are accomplished within prescribed time frame. Directs and coordinate’s reliability and R&D activities for organizational products, services, or ideologies by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

  • Develops initial and subsequent modifications of the continuous product improvement program to delineate areas of responsibility, personnel requirements, and operational procedures within program.
  • Reviews technical problems and procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures.
  • Visits and confers with representatives of material and component vendors to obtain information related to supply quality, capacity of vendor to meet orders, and vendor quality standards.
  • Confers with manufacturing and design engineers about quality assurance of new products designed and manufactured products on market to rectify problems.
  • Reviews technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in industry.
  • Plans, coordinates, and directs training and staff development programs for organization personally or through Employee Development coordinator.
  • Implements, plans, coordinate, and direct configuration management and control of quality records personally or through Document Control coordinators.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Directs product simplification and standardization to eliminate unprofitable items from sales line.
  • Represents company at trade association meetings to promote product.
  • Assists other departments within the organization to prepare manuals and technical publications.
  • Directs product research and development.
  • Monitors and evaluates the activities and products of the competition.
  • Recommends or approves budget, expenditures, and appropriations for research and development work.
  • Negotiates contracts with consulting firms to perform research studies.
  • Reviews project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
  • Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
  • Coordinates project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies.
  • Coordinates project activities with activities of UL, CSA, and other approval agencies.
  • Assists Customer Service Department in providing technical service information relay, solenoid, and control grip customers.
  • Knowledge of the EMS, QMS policies, goals and objectives. Assist with systems based on Lean principles and practices to meet or exceed the requirements of the established QMS, EMS and all other standards required to serve our target markets.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as required and assigned by the President or his representative.

education / experience requirements

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or four to six years related experience and/or training in quality, manufacturing and/or engineering disciplines; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
