KCF Technologies is Hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern Near State College, PA

Where You Come In:

KCF Technologiesis seeking participants in many areas of study to contribute to our high-performing teams as part of the Future Innovators Internship Program . This 10-week, full-time paid program June 5 – August 11 will take place at our KCF Headquarters in-person, or remotely, depending on where home is for you and what your position is. With our work from home, work from anywhere policy, the choice of where to work is yours for most of our roles! 

Our home base is our headquarters in State College, PA, but you will find KCF Teammates spread across 26 different U.S. States with our flexible remote model. We give you the autonomy to define how and where you do your best work!

  • We will be evaluating applications from mid-September through early-November.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with various depts and customers (Support, Field Operations, Sales & Strategy, Engineering) to identify and formally document product requirements in the early phases of Hardware Product Development
  • Collaborate with other engineers to review product requirements and participate in design reviews/decisions
  • Acquire and/or possess subject matter expertise on KCF’s hardware product portfolio
  • Act as customer advocate articulating end user’s needs
  • Assist with running beta and pilot programs for new hardware products and ensure internal and customer requirements/ expectations are met
  • Participate in hardware design and build of prototypes
  • Work with vendors for parts sourcing and evaluations
  • Create documentation and drawings of parts and assemblies, written assembly procedures, schematics, BOMs
  • Help with training of Production department for new product assembly, tooling, etc.
  • Assimilate knowledge through company-wide training efforts for new hardware products
  • Assist Hardware/Mechanical Engineer Team in documentation, mechanical design, and part numbering tasks
  • Prototype assembly, testing, pre-production steps, vendor sourcing, tool design and fabrication, and new hardware product release tasks
  • Hands-on tasks; soldering molding, laser etching, etc.
  • Develop innovative solutions to diverse industrial machinery problems
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering, manufacturing, and firmware teams
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and other KCF leadership staff

Qualifications: 

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master's Degree program in engineering or related field
  • Must be willing to work in-person in State College for the 10-week program
  • Interest in machine health or data analysis a plus
  • Experience with Solidworks for mechanical design
  • Experience designing hardware utilizing common manufacturing methods (injection molding, machining, casting, sheet metal)
  • Experience designing electromechanical devices
  • Experience with UL and CE certification of products
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Demonstrates leadership in field of study, extra-curricular activities, or service organizations
  • Willingness to ask questions, take initiative and be resourceful and inventive
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization, customers, and stakeholders as needed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability present to executive level audiences
  • Proven ability to deliver creative solutions to complicated problems
  • Ability to start an assignment or project from scratch and drive to completion
