Kansas & Western MO Division is Hiring an Activities Assistant Near Bedford, IN

The Salvation Army Mission Statement:

Job Objective:

The Assistant Program Aide will facilitate the provision of Camp Recreational Activities to campers through direct teaching, facilitation, and training of others. Additionally responsible for the care, set up and maintenance of all camp activity resources, supplies and equipment.

Camp Dates: May through the end of July.

What You Will Do:

  • Take pictures of all camp activities throughout each session.
  • Treat camp camera carefully and maintain its cleanliness and effectiveness.
  • Assist at camper registration, take all camper pictures for record keeping.
  • Provide craft project supplies to the staff member assigned to lead the craft activity during choice time.
  • Maintain an inventory of all activity supplies.
  • Maintain the system for requesting supplies and signing them out to camp staff and other leaders.
  • Maintain cleanliness of supply storage area in Admin work room.
  • Lead programs/classes as assigned.
  • Assist Activities Coordinator and Recreation Coordinator in preparing program spaces and supplies for use, according to the camp schedule.
  • Participate and assist as assigned with camp programming.
  • Assist in facilitating other camp activities for which the proper training and certification is received.
  • Participate as assigned in all camp activities.
  • Comply with camp policies.
  • Observe the spiritual emphasis of camp.
  • Keep living quarters clean and neat at all times.
  • Practice courtesy in sharing living space with other camp staff members.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Participate in staff meetings, evaluation sessions and devotion times.
  • Must carry radio while camp is in session on your person.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Leadership.

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: Be a High School Student or above

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed. Findings may disqualify an individual for this position

Experience: Must have experience working with children. Must have experience in relevant camp activities. Must have general knowledge of how to care for camp recreation equipment and supplies.

Certifications: Must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 30 days of employment. Must be able to complete provided training courses for camp activities as assigned, such as paintball, mountain bikes, etc.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be a Christian who demonstrates the principles of Christian living.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to manage time well in order to accomplish multiple tasks by a set schedule.
  • Able to relate God to campers in the natural setting of camp.
  • Ability to plan a lesson or activity
  • Ability to teach a concept or lead an activity for children or adults
  • Ability to train others to lead or teach an activity. 
  • Able to guide, direct, and supervise daily duties and responsibilities of other staff members, as assigned
  • Able to communicate well with other staff, campers and supervisors

Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibilities

Physical Requirements Include:

  • Able to walk for extended periods of time and across uneven terrain.
  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting materials up to 60 pounds and carry it for at least 50 feet.
  • Be physically fit enough to keep up with daily camp activities.

Travel: Position may require occasional local travel, including the use of camp vehicles across the camp property.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a residential camp setting; Work will be expected at varying and flexible times, including overnight and some scheduled weekends.
