Kansas Medical Center (KMC) is a fully physician owned 58 inpatient bed hospital that opened in 2006. Our mission is to provide patient centered care through the empowerment of physicians and other care givers enhanced by state of the art technology. KMC offers services in a wide array of specialties for both inpatient and outpatient services. The main campus has:
• Six operating rooms
• Two procedure rooms
• Two Cath Labs
• Intermediate care for preoperative and postoperative patients
• Three inpatient nursing units: Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Intensive Care
• Outpatient services including: X-Ray, CT, MRI, PET, PT, Lab, and Cardiac Rehab
 
In addition to our main campus, KMC operates:
• Three Family Practice clinics located in Andover and Derby
• Two Cardiology Clinic located in NE Wichita
• Multiple Cardiology Outreach Clinics throughout the state of Kansas

Supervisory Responsibility:


This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.


Education/Training:


Must be a graduate of state and/or national Paramedic (MICT) program.


Licensure and Certification Requirements:


Paramedic Certification issued by the Kansas State Board of Emergency Medical Services required.


Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.


Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.


Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or PALS equivalent required.


Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) required.




Experience Required:


Two years of street Paramedic or Emergency Department experience required. 


Position Summary:


The Paramedic will provide basic and advanced life support to sick and injured persons in the hospital setting. The Paramedic will perform all essential job functions under the direct supervision of the Emergency Department Physician or Nurse in Charge. 


 Essential Job Functions: 


  1. Provides basic patient life support including CPR, basic airway management, airway suctioning, spinal immobilization, fracture management, and wound care.
  2. Provides advanced patient life support including airway management, IVs, lab draws/venipuncture, and medication administration.
  3. Assesses injuries to identify nature and extent in order to prioritize medical procedures and identify the need for additional medical assistance.
  4. Assesses vital signs such as blood pressure readings and pulse.
  5. Assesses and treats patients with burns, blunt and penetrating trauma, and other various patient emergencies.

    6.  Communicates patient assessment, conditions, and treatment to Department staff.

 Work Environment:                                                                          


This position operates in a typical temperature-controlled hospital environment. Work environment generally includes moderate-to-high risk of exposure to blood/ bodily fluids. Risk generally includes moderate-to-high risk of exposure to infectious disease. This position does include occupational risk of exposure to tuberculosis (Category 2). This position includes a moderate to high risk of exposure to Hepatitis B.


 Physical Requirements:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; occasionally required to sit for long periods of time; regularly required to stand for long periods of time; regularly required to use hands to handle, grasp, or feel objects, tools, and controls; regularly required to walk or use other means of mobility; occasionally required to reach with hands and arms above head and below waist; occasionally required to kneel, stoop, and crouch; and occasionally required to use push and pull motion. The employee must frequently be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques.  The employee is required, with or without corrective lenses, to have visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection; operation of machines; investigating and assessing; determining accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work; and to make general observations.
