POSITION PURPOSEProvides and models timely and courteous customer service at all times. Manages multiple phone lines so that incoming calls are answered in a prompt manner. Directs incoming calls to the correct area or individual politely and efficiently. Takes and distributes messages in a timely fashion. Assists customers with questions, demonstrates and shares knowledge of the Kansas Humane Society and all programs/services offered. Respect for the human animal bond a must!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCustomer Service: Provides and models timely, polite, and respectful internal and external customer service regardless of the circumstances. Directs calls to the appropriate individual area/person in a timely manner. Must remain calm, flexible, and willing to see other perspectives. Provides recognition and support to both staff and volunteers for their individual contributions to our agency. Ensures that every individual who enters/calls our agency is recognized and treated as a potential donor.
Customer Education: Must possess the ability to provide information regarding agency and community services for pets. Supports the implementation of an open adoption and open admission program. Seeks and sustains knowledge and understanding of the Kansas Humane Society, our mission/vision and demonstrates the ability to provide customer education on all services/programs offered.
Training: Participates in staff training and development opportunities as requested. Participates in special events, projects, and cross training programs as needed.
Clerical: Provides clerical assistance to other departments as time allows.

QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High School Diploma or Equivalent
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of multi-line phone systems and telephone etiquette.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: A background in a care-giving or customer service field. Should prefer and have the ability to cope with emotionally demanding work. Required to manage phone calls that may be awkward, emotional, and sometimes hostile for the most reasonable customer experience possible.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Typing speed 40 words per minute, Customer Service, Flexibility, Conflict Resolution, Independent Decision Making. Respect for the human/animal bond.

TALKING:

Ability to speak effectively and communicate clearly,

Able to hear average conversations

REPETITIVE MOTION:

The employee is regularly required to type continuously throughout the day.

FINGER DEXTERITY:

The employee is regularly required to use hands to type.

AVERAGE VISION:

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May also walking or sit for long periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to handle challenging customers calmly and respectfully on a daily basis. General office environment. Surroundings may be noisy at times. Adequate lighting.

MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

REASONING ABILITY:

Provide excellent customer service, flexibility, good conflict resolution skills, make decision independently, must have respect for the human/animal bond. Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Required to manage awkward, emotional, and sometimes hostile customers for the best customer service possible.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers and common fractions.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to communicate clearly.
