The Staff Accountant ensures accurate internal and external recording and reporting of financial transactions and that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, and Company procedures. Keeps records and accounts accurate and current. Researches and resolves discrepancies and accounting errors. Completes related reports, summaries, and records, and performs related clerical duties. Job Description 1. Assumes responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of assigned accounting functions. Perform month end close activities, including preparing journal entries, reviewing financials statements, and analyzing variances. Reconciles general ledger accounts as assigned. Completes bank reconciliations. Prepares monthly sales/use and other tax returns. Maintains business asset records and posts general ledger entries Assist in daily cash posting and A/R research. Actively participates in the annual audit. Ensures that accounting records and reports are in compliance with GAAP and government regulations. Performs miscellaneous clerical tasks. Performs general accounting tasks as requested or needed. 2. Assumes responsibility for effectively identifying, researching, tracking, and resolving accounting problems and discrepancies. Assist accounting personnel with cash posting discrepancies. Ensures appropriate posting rules are being followed. 3. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with area personnel and with management. Maintains regular contact with other departments to obtain information and/or to correct transactions. Assists accounting personnel as needed. Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems. Reports the status of all account reconciliations to the Sr. Controller. Attends and participates in meetings as required. Ensures appropriate levels of confidentiality regarding Company operations and employee compensation. 3. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective business relations with clients, vendors, outside auditors and regulators, and professional trade groups. Ensures that the Company’s professional reputation is maintained. Ensures appropriate levels of confidentiality regarding Company operations. 4. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned. Ensures that work is performed accurately and timely. Completes special projects as assigned. Performance Measurements 1. Accounting documents, records, and reports are accurate, current, and timely. 2. Accounting errors or discrepancies are promptly discovered and resolved (or referred). 3. Effective communication and coordination exist with Company personnel. Assistance and support are provided as needed. 4. Management is appropriately informed of area activities. 5. Company assets are safeguarded and preserved 6. Accounting functions are completed in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: College degree in accounting or equivalent experience. Required Knowledge : Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and procedures including account reconciliation. Knowledge of related computer applications. Experience Required: One to two years of previous accounting experience. Skills/Abilities: Well organized and detail oriented. Good math skills. Good attention to detail and accuracy.
